25-year-old Chelsea defender completes loan move to Crystal Palace

It was a busy transfer window for Chelsea, just like the last three windows. No club has spent more money than the Blues in this summer transfer window. The very last day of this transfer window was also a very busy one for Chelsea, as the club wanted to sell some of the players and at the same time sign new ones. One of the Chelsea defenders, Trevoh Chalobah, completed his loan move to the Premier League side, Crystal Palace, on the final day of the transfer window.

Trevoh Chalobah joins Crystal Palace on loan

Trevoh Chalobah is a Chelsea graduate, who made his professional debut with Chelsea in 2021. Before that, the defender completed three loan spells, namely at Ipswich Town, Huddersfield Town, and Lorient. Since 2021, Chalobah has made 80 appearances in the last three seasons for the Blues. Last season, the youngster made only 17 appearances across all competitions, 13 of them being in the Premier League. This clearly shows the reduced playing time he got the last season, in comparison to the previous seasons.

However, Chelsea changed their manager and introduced Enzo Maresca as the new head coach. Despite the changing of the manager, there seemed to be a very rare chance of Trevoh Chalobah getting sufficient playing time. So, a move to a new club was inevitable. Chalobah was not involved in the pre-season squad as well. That further indicated towards to a potential departure.

Crystal Palace were interested in signing the 25-year-old. Palace sold their star defender, Joachim Andersen to Fulham this summer. So, the Eagles were eager to find a replacement for Andersen. The club also wanted to sign a new striker.

Crystal Palace already have English international, Marc Guehi, who was linked with various clubs but fortunately for the Eagles, no club was ready to pay the price Crystal Palace was asking. So, the English international remained at the club. With Chalobah coming in, the fans will witness a centre-back pairing of two, young bright talents from England.

Chalobah has also expressed his happiness on joining Palace. The 25 year-old said,

“I’m delighted to join an ambitious club like Crystal Palace. I know some of the boys in the squad well and I’m looking forward to playing alongside them in front of the amazing support at Selhurst Park,”

Sancho joins the Blues on loan from United

On the other hand, Chelsea completed the move of former Borussia Dortmund player, Jadon Sancho, from Manchester United. Chelsea bought Sancho on loan with an obligation to buy permanently in the future. The Blues confirmed Sancho to join as a total package will be worth £20m fixed fee, with £5m add-on. Sancho spent the second half of the last season in Germany with Dortmund, on loan before returning to United. Sancho featured in the Community Shield final against Manchester City. Many United fans were hoping that he would stay at the club but eventually, Sancho left United due to the reported fallout with the manager last season. This was the same reason why Sancho left on loan last season as well.

Just before the Sancho deal, Chelsea signed another new goalkeeper, Mike Penders, from Genk for a transfer fee of around £20m. Chelsea already signed a new goalkeeper this summer, Filip Jorgensen from Villarreal.
