No club has spent more money than Chelsea in this summer transfer window. The Blues have already spent close to £300m this summer and signed 11 new players. Despite spending that much amount and bringing this huge amount of players, the Blues are eager to make signings before the end of the transfer window. Now Chelsea want to sign striker and English international Ivan Toney from their Premier League rivals, Brentford.
Will Ivan Toney join Chelsea?
The future of Ivan Toney is still uncertain as many clubs are still chasing the English international. Chelsea are very interested in Ivan Toney but apart from Chelsea Saudi club Al-Ahli are also eager to sign Ivan Toney. Toney was not part of Brentford’s first two matches in the new Premier League season. He was also not even included in the squad for Wednesday’s match against Colchester in the Carabao Cup second round. So, there is seems to be a clear indication that Ivan Toney might continue his career elsewhere.
Ivan Toney’s performance for Brentford
Ivan Toney joined Brentford in 2020 on a five-year contract from Peterborough United. Since then the 28-year-old striker improved his playing style a lot and has given some of the best performances for Brentford. Toney scored 72 goals for Brentford in his 141 appearances for Brentford over four seasons. Last season Toney Scored 4 goals in 17 appearances for the club. His brilliant performance at the club level earned him a position in the England squad for Euro 2024. In Euro 2024 Toney made three appearances for the three Lions and all of them were as a substitute.
After his brilliant performance in the previous two seasons and the performance in the Euro catches the attention of big clubs. Chelsea are one of them that want to sign Ivan Toney. Chelsea already signed a striker, Marc Guiu from Barcelona. Still, the Blues want to bring a high-profile striker before the end of this summer. And Victor Osimhen and Ivan Toney are two names that Chelsea are considering right now for a possible move.
Chelsea’s striker problem
Actually, Chelsea need a high-profile striker who can score continuously for the Blues. Since the 2016/17 season, no Chelsea striker crossed the 15-goal mark in the Premier League. The last time a Chelsea striker scored more than 15 goals in the whole Premier League season was Diego Costa in 2016/17. Last season Chelsea’s main striker Nicolas Jackson scored 14 goals in the Premier League. So, Chelsea really want to change the scenario and for that, they need a high-profile striker like Ivan Toney.
