With only one week left in the summer transfer window, Chelsea fans are expecting more departures from the club in this final week. The Blues just completed the signing of Joao Felix from Atletico Madrid with a transfer fee of $58m. The Portuguese winger has joined the Blues on a six-year contract with an option of an additional year.
English international Conor Gallagher has also completed his move to Atletico Madrid, from Chelsea, for $47 million. Now, Chelsea fans are expecting one more departure before the closure of this season’s summer transfer window. And that is none other than, Chelsea star winger Raheem Sterling, who could leave the Blues in the coming days.
Will Raheem Sterling leave Chelsea this summer?
Raheem Sterling joined the Blues back in 2022 from Manchester City. The former Liverpool man has made 81 appearances till now for the Blues in the last two seasons, scoring 19 goals, and registering 12 assists. Last season, Sterling made 43 appearances for Chelsea across all competitions. Last season, he played an important role under former manager, Mauricio Pochettino.
However, this year things have changed as Enzo Maresca has been appointed as the new head coach. The former Leicester City boss is now taking steps that are making Sterling’s future uncertain. Sterling is the only senior player in the current Chelsea squad, alongside Romelu Lukaku, who is also expected to leave the club. He is also the second-highest wage earner in the Chelsea squad, after Lukaku.
Chelsea are willing to offload some of the players from the squad, especially the older ones, and string to earn some money to maintain the PSR.
What could be the next destination of Raheem Sterling?
Italian giants Juventus are very interested in signing Raheem Sterling. The Turin club want to sell Federico Chiesa in this summer transfer window. The departure of Chiesa will vacate a position in the squad. Juventus want to replace Chiesa with Sterling.
However, the old lady will sign Sterling only if they are able to reduce his wage bills. As mentioned previously, Chelsea offered a huge wage to Raheem Sterling, which has stopped the Italian side from completing the deal. The old lady want to sell Federico Chiesa in this summer transfer window.
