A last-minute return for Chilwell can be possible

Last few days Chelsea left-back, Ben Chilwell, has faced uncertainty at the Stamford Bridge, as the coach Enzo Maresca didn’t include him in the first team squad. So, an exit for the English left-back was looming in the shadows this transfer window. Reports were claiming that Turkish giants, Fenerbahce, will buy him from the Blues.

But at this point, media sources are claiming a different story. According to The Telegraph, the Englishman has changed his mind and decided to stay and fight for his place at the club. Chilwell believes that he can make a return to the 25-man squad.

At this point, he is one of the senior most players at the club. Players like him can lead by example and guide the youngsters towards success. Experienced players like Thiago Silva, Conor Gallagher, and Raheem Sterling have already left the club. So, there is a lack of experience in the dressing room. If Chilwell returns to the squad, then it will be a good thing for the Blues.

It was being said that Chilwell doesn’t suit Maresca’s playing style. However, he can prove everyone wrong with his incredible playing ability, as everyone has witnessed before. These past few days have a hectic one for Chilwell. He was unsure about his future. But at this moment, he knows what he will be doing in the upcoming days.

Chelsea’s transfer window

From the sale of Conor Gallagher, to excluding Raheem Sterling, everything was happening in an unpleasant way at the club. On top of that, there is a feud going on between the Chelsea owners. Among all this chaos, the Blues still managed to have a successful transfer widow, making massive profits from player sales.

Chelsea raised almost £94.5 million with the sales of Omari Hutchinson to Ipswitch Town for £22m, Ian Maatsen to Aston Villa for £37.5m, and Lewis Hall to Newcastle United for £35m. On top of that, the Blues also finally sold Romelu Lukaku, to Napoli for €30m.

Ben Chilwell’s departure was also supposed to be a part of their ‘mass exodus’ operation. However as the time progressed, both the player and the club changed their minds, and decided to continue together, with the player aiming to fight for a place in the squad.

Chelsea signed great talents this summer, which includes Jadon Sancho, Joao Felix, Pedro Neto, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, Tosin Adarabioyo, Marc Guiu, Omari Kellyman, and Estevao Willian. If they can add Victor Osimhen to this squad in the next summer transfer window or even possibly in January, it will make a formidable attacking front line for the Blues.

Chilwell’s Future at Chelsea

In this crucial time, the Blues need a leader like Ben Chilwell. He might not be playing a lot of games for the Blues, but his presence in the dressing room is very important. If Chilwell is ready for this role, he can certainly help the club with his experience and suggestions. There are few players who take up this type of role at Chelsea right now.

The Blues have been planning to revive their past glory under the ownership of Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital Group. However, it has been very chaotic so far. Last season, Mauricio Pochettino’s Chelsea achieved the European Conference League spot, which was considered far from being ideal for the club.

Enzo Maresca guided Leicester City towards Premier League promotion. So, the Italian manager might bring a winning mentality to the Chelsea dressing room. During the past few seasons, the Blues have been lacking a winning mentality, which can be fulfilled by Maresca.
