This transfer season isn’t much hyped about the sales of the goalkeeper. One prominent name that comes forward, however, is England international Aaron Ramsdale. The English goalkeeper arrived at Arsenal in 2021, quickly establishing him as the club’s number 1. He has had a brilliant debut season, proving critics and haters wrong. However, the ambitious Spanish manager Arteta’s decision to bring in David Raya has put Ramsdale as the second choice for Arsenal. Ramsdale is only 26 years old and has top-flight experience. He is one of the few keepers currently to boast a strong CV in the goalkeeper position. His time at Brentford saw him get mixed opinions, but a gamble by Arteta proved fruitful for the Gunners. Losing a key position will not be appreciated by any player. This leaves Ramsdale with a new dilemma: whether to continue with Arsenal or leave the club for more game time.
Arsenal desire to keep both Raya and Ramsdale
Arsenal have narrowly missed the Premier League title. They are keen on strengthening the club currently and have no intention to let go of Ramsdale. The Gunners want a strong backup in every position, including goalkeeper. On the other hand, Ramsdale’s lack of game time will hamper his position in the national squad. He is most likely to be the next number 1 after Pickford, and remaining consistent is necessary. Arteta, however, prefers a system where the keeper is essential in providing long and accurate passes, something that fits David Raya perfectly, and Ramsdale fails to deliver the same for Arsenal. There is no doubt that the Englishman is a brilliant shot stopper, something that the fans have already seen. But does he have it all to win trophies for the club?
Ramsdale has made over 85 appearances for the club in 3 seasons, which fell short of reaching 100 due to Raya’s recruitment. Juventus would have been a great place for the former Brentford keeper to start afresh, with Szescny leaving for Saudi Arabia. Alas, they have already found a new keeper. Moreover, Raamsdale cost Arsenal about 30 million pounds, for which Arsenal wants to make a profit. With shaky times ahead in the position, Arsenal is also keen to sign a third-choice keeper in the summer window. Arteta and the team want to keep Ramsdale, but as a backup. It is essential for the Englishman to leave for personal growth, but with the traditional method of goalkeeping becoming almost obsolete, it is a big question which club would take an interest in relying on a keeper as such.
With that being said, Arsenal looks like a good fit for Aaron Ramsdale for the time being.
