Liverpool goalkeeper Adrian has stated about his intentions to leave the club with his contract expiring at the end of the season. The 37-year old joined Liverpool in 2019 from West Ham. The Spaniard has been Liverpool’s 3rd choice goalkeeper filling in for Allison from time to time.
Adrian has provided Liverpool with much needed squad depth between the sticks over his tenure at the club. The Spaniard will be leaving alongside Joel Matip and Thiago Alcantara, who are both expected to depart with their contracts expiring too.
Adrian: ‘I would like to return to LaLiga’
Adrian hasn’t made a single appearance for Liverpool in the Premier League since 2021. The Spaniard is looking away for a move from the Merseyside to LaLiga after 6 years of service.
The goalkeeper’s comments were relayed by Mucho Deporte, them being:
“I would like to return to LaLiga after 11 seasons in the Premier League. It would be the end of a cycle. I’m still ready to compete. I feel very good despite being 37.
You know that goalkeepers, if you take good care of yourself, if you haven’t had any serious injuries lately and you’re fine, the daily training gives you that intensity that makes you compete.
I think Adrián has a long time left and it’s true that I would like to return to the LaLiga. It has to be a nice, interesting project.”
Although, Adrian stated that he hasn’t had any talks with Liverpool yet. The 37-year old goalkeeper added:
“I haven’t sat down with Liverpool yet either. I don’t rule out that we could have a pending conversation, but it is true that we will be looking out of the corner of our eye to see what happens in the LaLiga.”
Liverpool goalkeeper Adrian back to Real Betis?
The goalkeeper spent 15 years of his career moving up the ranks from academy at Real Betis. It seems quite poetic that Adrian has just opened up about considering to leave Liverpool. And, at the same time, Claudio Bravo is expected to leave Betis.
The 37-year old goalkeeper could be having one last dance at the twilight of his career back at his home.
