Aghehowa: Arsenal Enter the Race for FC Porto’s Young Striker

Getting hold of a prolific striker is no simple task and Arsenal have made their way to FC Porto seeking to add 19 goal wonder Samu Aghehowa to their squad. Nevertheless they have some serious competition as Premier League rivals Aston Villa, Chelsea and West Ham also eye the defender. The question is, however, can Aghehowa be the next big thing at the Emirates? Will he turn out to be another such ‘could have been’ story like Dusan Vlahovic?

Who is Samu Aghehowa?

Samu Aghehowa is a Spanish forward who could be a Chelsea player who has conveyed plans for those who live away when it comes to Chelsea clubs. Aghehowa however did not hold on to Stamford Bridge move, FC Porto came swooping in and now with 19 goals to his name he is one of Europe’s hottest young wingers.

Though they were smart enough to include a hefty sell on clause, Porto may have signed him for a bargain compared to the amount Chelsea wanted to spend. The 100 million Euro release clause is the value of his current contract but Porto could be Roulette for about 50 million, a relative bargain in the inflated market.

Why Arsenal Want him

There is no secret how Arsenal need a clinical finisher. However, Gabriel Jesus has been less of a goal machine and more of a creator while Eddie Nketiah has not convinced as a long term No. 9. Without a reliable striker to call upon, a title challenge will always be a battle that Arteta knows is never going to be easy.

However, the Gunners show interest in Alexander Isak and Benjamin Sesko, but they happen to be expensive. Isak will not be leaving Newcastle for anything much less than £80 million, and Sesko’s growing reputation at RB Leipzig will see Arsenal willing to break the bank if he were to come. Aghehowa at €50 million is a much more sensible option.
