According to reports, Ajax and Tottenham Hotspur have reached a €30 million agreement for the sale of Steven Bergjwin. He had a disappointing season since Antonio Conte frequently benched him in games. Harry Kane, Son Heung Min, Lucas Moura and January arrival Dejan Kulusevski all were ahead of him on the team sheet.
With the arrival of Richarlison from Everton, Bergjwin will find game time even more hard to come by.
With the World Cup coming in a few months, Bergjwin will look for a team where he can play regularly. Ajax seems to be that place. Talks have taken place for a long time, but a winter move never came to fruition.
While on international duty, the former PSV man gave an honest assessment of his future. He was open about his desire to play more, something that was not available at Spurs.
It would be nice if there was clarity soon. I just have to go play. But I want to leave Spurs now, that’s for sure. Whether it is important that my new club plays in the Champions League? That’s not even top priority. Though it would be nice. What’s important is that I’m going to play. I wasn’t allowed to leave Spurs in the winter and then I didn’t have any problems. The last few months I was hardly looked after there. Now I want to play somewhere weekly.
Steven Bergjwin
Steven Bergjwin has shown himself to be a very talented player. He made a sensational arrival to the Premier League, scoring a scrumptious volley against Manchester City on his debut. The game against Leicester City this season was another memorable moment. Spurs were 2-1 down to the Foxes in extra time before Bergjwin scored a brace in 2 minutes to send the away end in a frenzy. It was a decisive moment in the top 4 race.
However, the story of Bergjwin and Spurs has come to an end. Hopefully, for him, he can kick on and realize his potential with more game time.
