Former Premier League legend Alan Shearer has given his verdict on Declan Rice not celebrating his goal against West Ham United. The Hammers locked horns with Arsenal at London Stadium on previous Sunday. The Gunners anhiliated the hosts 6-0 with former Hammers’ star Declan scoring the sixth goal.
However, the Englishman decided not to celebrate against his former employers and fans. Rice’s lack of celebration has split opinion really. Chris Sutton has said that the England man showed his class by not making a big deal of it, while others disagree. Meanwhile his former partner, Alan Shearer, had a different outlook on the decision of Declan.
Shearer bolts down his opinion on what if he was Declan Rice
The former Newcastle United striker says that he would have certainly celebrated the goal. Speaking alongside Gary Lineker on the Rest Is Football podcast, Shearer admitted that the game is about scoring goals and that in an ideal world, he’d have liked to have seen Rice celebrate.
“When I saw it I was thinking ‘come onnn’. Look, I know what West Ham means to him but I’m not really one for not celebrating goals. You work all week to score goals. Everyone knows what West Ham means to him and all that so I get it, but if it was me, I’d have been away celebrating.”
There is no way that Alan Shearer would celebrate a goal against Newcastle if he’d have left them and then got back to St James’ Park and scored. Everyone is well aware of the mutual love and affection West Ham and Declan Rice have between them. The goal is probably one of the best scored by the England international till now. However, his act was a pure class as it will be admired by the fans all around the world surely.
