Chelsea loanee Alfie Gilchrist has attracted interest from many Premier League Clubs as reported by Fabrizio Romano with his performances in the Championship for Sheffield United.
Other clubs are including Chelsea defender Alfie Gilchrist on their scout lists. This is coming before the January transfer window. Last season Gilchrist played for Chelsea. This summer he went on loan to Sheffield United. That said, the 21-year-old is playing regularly at Sheffield United.
In the Championship, he has appeared 20 times, starting 20 games, and been used from the bench twice. Other clubs have taken note of this good form, Fabrizio Romano reports. Premier League clubs want to sign Gilchrist permanently in January.
But Sheffield United’s Gilchrist plays in a defence that has only conceded 13 goals in 23 games. Almost all of Gilchrist’s starts have come at right-back under Chris Wilder.
He looks set to play mainly right-back. Itโs different to how he used to play academy days and that is in the center. Gilchrist has agreed to stay at Sheffield United for the whole season. Chelsea too also wants this to happen. Gilchrist believes he should end the season there.
Mauricio Pochettino felt that if he doesnโt continue to play football, then he shouldnโt start. In 2025-26 Gilchrist hopes to return to playing for Chelsea. This is unlikely but, Josh Acheampong’s emergence ensures it. Chelsea’s squad includes Reece James and Malo Gusto. It would see Gilchrist become our fourth choice right back.
Gilchrist’s contract ends in 2026. But unless he awards him a new Chelsea contract next year, Chelsea may sell him. The most likely option is to sell Gilchrist. It could be if he plays great for the second half of the season. At Chelsea, that might make them think his value will rise.
