Andre Gomes Likely To Leave Everton This Summer

Everton

According to Football Insider, Everton are planning to sell Portuguese midfielder, Andre Gomes. The ex-Barcelona man has lost his solace in the starting lineup, and Frank Lampard deems him surplus to requirements. He may join a host of other players departing Goodinson, as the Toffees look to freshen their squad, as well as raise finances for a rebuild.

Gomes was signed by Everton on a season-long loan deal in 2018 from Barcelona. The midfielder was a regular in the centre of the park and was signed permanently before the 2019/20 season. It was this season when he sustained a freak injury against Tottenham Hotspur, which led to a lengthy spell on the sidelines. This injury probably affected his game, as he did not reach the previous level he was at.

Fast forward to today, and Andre Gomes finds himself on the periphery of the Everton squad. He could make only 7 starts in the 2021/22 season, in which Everton were in a relegation battle.

Frank Lampard has trusted Allan and Abdoulaye Doucoure  over the Portuegese. His best shot at regular game time may be outside Merseyside now.

His wages may be a significant issue in moving him. He earns 120,000 pounds a week and still has 2 years left on his current deal. It will be difficult to find a club that can offer Gomes that.

Everton’s Future Without Gomes

It seems that Everton are covered in the middle of the park. As mentioned above, Doucoure and Allan have been trusted by manager Frank Lampard. The signing of Dele Alli from Tottenham Hotspur may also be at the forefront next season and find some minutes.

On the other hand, Everton will look for clarity over the futures of frontmen Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Richarlison. The pair may be on their way out after a poor campaign. Arsenal and Real Madrid remain interested in them, respectively.
