Manchester United’s Andre Onana was heavily criticised for his performance in the UEL quarte final game against Lyon on Thursday.
Andre Onana had an eventful night on Thursday
Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana has again came under scrutiny after Thursday’s UEL game. He already made the headlines after exchange of words in the pre-match with Nemanja Matic.
The Utd stopper was caught making two costly mistakes against Lyon in their first leg of the Europa League’s last eight fixture. Those errors were converted into goals by the French side. United drew 2-2 with Lyon on Thursday after an eventful night of football.
The French side’s Thiago Almada opened the scoring in the 25th minute of the game. Although, Leny Yoro got the Red Devils back on level in the closing minutes of the first half. In the 88th minute, Joshua Zirkzee’s header gave his side the much wanted lead in the tie. However, Rayan Cherki scored the equaliser in the 95th minute and drew the game.
The Cameroon international stopper made two huge mistakes that led to two goals. His first error was letting Almada’s free-kick get past him easily. And later he lost the ball in front of Cherki and conceded the equaliser in the last minutes of the fixture.
Should Utd look for another GK in summer ?
Onana has been caught making mistakes on various events since arriving at Old Trafford. He has been making poor errors and conceded goals after those mistakes. He joined the Red Devils for £47.2 million from Inter Milan.
Head coach Ruben Amorim might look for goalkeeping options in the summer transfer window. Although, it is not on their list as they are looking for players for other departments.
However, Amorim’s side might try to find a replacement for the Cameroonian stopper this summer. If they are looking for options, Liverpool‘s Caoimhin Kelleher should be on their target.
Kelleher has reportedly decided to leave the Reds during the end of this season. He has been amazing for Merseyside club in absence of Alisson. He wants to be a regular in the starting line up.
The Ireland international has a Liverpool contract till 2026. In addition, few reports suggest that he does not want to sign a new deal with the Reds.
So, if Man Utd were to look for goalkeeping options, Kelleher should be their main man.
