Andreas Christensen is reportedly close to signing a new contract worth £120,000 per week at Chelsea

The defender is into the final year of his contract at Stamford Bridge. But, the Blues are set to hand him a new one, which will be a significant improvement to around £120,000-a-week from his current pay of £78,000-a-week.

Christensen has previously hinted at extending his stay at Chelsea. He told Extra Bladet, “I can’t say too much…but I think it looks good. I am very happy to be at this club and feel Chelsea are the right place to be in England.”

Andreas Christensen promised a future at Chelsea?

Andreas Christensen has progressed through the youth ranks at Chelsea since joining as a 16-year-old in 2012. The 25-year-old made his Chelsea debut back in 2014 and has been in and out of the side since then. He was close to leaving the club in the 2020 January transfer window. However, he is now one of the first names on the team sheet since Thomas Tuchel arrived in West London.

According to reports, Chelsea were happy to extend Christensen’s stay at the club last year, but only saw him as a squad player and offered him less money to sign a new contract.

Although, things have changed now. The Denmark international helped Chelsea to Champions League glory last season and is a key part of their Premier League title challenge this time around. As a result, he is being offered a pay rise.

Christensen has started four out of Chelsea’s five Premier League games this season as the club sit top of the table. Thomas Tuchel was full of praise for the Danish defender following his impressive display in Chelsea’s 3-0 win away at Tottenham.

“Andreas has been very strong since day one, can play in all three positions in the defence and he plays with a lot of confidence”, the German manager said.

Christensen has now made 133 appearances for the Blues, although he still awaits his first goal for the club.
