Andreas Christensen has hinted at signing a new contract at Chelsea, with his current deal set to expire next year.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Christensen is negotiating a contract extension with Chelsea. The Denmark international told Extra Bladet, “I can’t say too much…but I think it looks good. I am very happy to be at this club and feel Chelsea are the right place to be in England.”

Christensen joined Chelsea’s academy at the age of 15 in February 2012, and made his professional debut in October 2014. In 2018, Christensen signed a four-and-half-year deal with Chelsea running until 2022, after establishing himself in the first team.

How important is Christensen to Chelsea?

Christensen has started every game for Chelsea so far in the Premier League this season. He has been a regular feature in the team since Thomas Tuchel arrived at Stamford Bridge last season. The German manager was full of praise for the centre-back after an impressive 1-1 draw at Anfield last weekend. “Andreas has been very strong since day one. He plays in the central position and finished the game in the right position because we brought Thiago on and decided to stay in a back five. He is very strong. Super talented. He loves Chelsea, he is a Chelsea boy from the academy. He has a huge impact.

“In the moment I think he feels the trust. He knows he can absolutely help. He is a top defender and top guy. I have the feeling he is growing every week in confidence and personality and self-confidence, which is good. He is doing fantastic since day one and getting better and better”, said Tuchel.

The feeling of trust from the manager is especially relevant as Christensen looks to pen a contract extension at the club. The 25-year old has a loyal servant to the club for many years now. Securing his signature would be a key component to Chelsea’s defensive rebuild.
