Andy Murray and Nick Kyrgios are in danger of missing out on the US Open. Both the tennis elites have to go through tough draws for the ATP Montreal finals.
Nick Kyrgios had a good season so far as he successfully ended his Wimbledon with a runners-up tag and recently he won the Citi Open title for the second time in his career. But the Australian has some tough competition to face ahead of the US Open. He is up against Sebastian Baez of Argentina in the first round of the Montreal Open. Later if he qualifies through to the second round then he’ll face World No.1, Daniel Medvedev.
Not only Krygios but the former World No.1 Andy Murray will have a tough August ahead of the US Open. The player will be facing World No.10 Taylor Fritz in the first round of the tournament. Also, the British tennis star has top players like Brit Evans, Andrey Rublev, and Carlos Alcaraz in his section of the draw.
Both the players are aware of the fact that if they fail to perform well in the ATP Montreal, any possibilities of the players having a seeded spot at the US Open will cease to exist. To attain a seeded spot, the players need to make it into the World’s Top 32.
Andy Murray hopeful for a seeded spot at the US Open
Currently, the players are at 63rd and 48th spots in the World rankings. They need to perform clinically in the Montreal open to fight for a seeded spot at the last Grand Slam of the season. Andy Murray is having a decent year after reaching the final of Sydney International and Stuttgart Open.
When asked about the possibility to find a seeded spot after an early exit from the Washington Open, the player said:
“It’s still possible, I would just need to have a good run in Canada or Cincinnati really.”
“It’s pretty straightforward if I was to make a quarter-final or a semi-final. But right now — after a loss like that — doesn’t seem realistic. I do feel like if I play very well that I could do that. But I’ll certainly need to play better than I did today.”
the player added.
Andy Murray and Nick Kyrgios have enjoyed a lot of success this year. But now it’s time for a final attempt to end the season on a high note. Montreal Open will begin from 5th August. The tournament will be a decider for all the players who hope to enter the top 32 before the start of the US Open.
