Arsenal star Eddie Nketiah is set to leave the Gunners on a five-year loan deal with Marseille. The French side is offering around £20m. Arsenal are said to be satisfied with the offer. Mikel Arteta has some talented strikers in his squad, which includes Gabriel Jesus, Ethan Nwaneri, and Kai Havertz.
Eddie Nketiah has fallen down in the pecking order at Emirates. That is why Arsenal are sending him on a loan spell. Several clubs were interested in him, but one club was able to lure the striker, and that is Olympique Marseille. It is being said that new Marseille coach Roberto De Zerbi is the main focal point of this deal. The Italian manager has convinced Nketiah to join Marseille.
The top-tier French club is ready to pay a hefty amount in transfer fees for the loan deal. A 5-year loan deal is almost like a permanent deal. According to The Athletic, Arsenal have agreed to leave Eddie Nketiah on a loan with an obligation to buy clause. That means Marseille can sign the player on a permanent deal if his loan spell ends. Bournemouth were also interested to sign him. Recently, they have lost Dominic Solanke. So, they wanted to fill the void with Eddie Nketiah.
Arsenal and Nketiah
Recently, Arsenal has bought multiple players. So, the homegrown talents are finding it difficult to make a place on the first team. The same thing has happened with Arsenal youngsters like Eddie Nketiah, Emile Smith Rowe, Lewis Brown, Omari Hutchinson, and many more.
It is being said that the young Englishman is eligible to play for Ghana. He made his senior debut for the England national team when he came off the bench against Australia. In order to get more England call-ups, Eddie needs to play more club football, and it is not possible in this Arsenal squad. That is why he is ready to leave Arsenal on a 5-year-long loan spell.
Recent performance by Nketiah
Last season, Eddie Nketiah played 37 games for Arsenal. Among them, he played 10 Premier League games from the start. After playing 37 games, Nketiah was able to score six times for the Gunners. That is not a good number for a striker. On the other hand, Leandro Trossard has scored more goals than him. Mikel Arteta used to employ the Belgian winger as a substitute player in the second half.
In most of the games, Mikel Arteta relied on Kai Havertz as their number nine. The German also delivered a good overall performance for Arsenal. Last season, when Arsenal were chasing Manchester City for the English Premier League title, Mikel Arteta didn’t use Eddie Nketiah. This incident proves that the young Englishman is at the bottom of the pecking order.
On the other hand, Gabriel Jesus has started to improve his performances because we have seen how he played against Lyon. It is fair to say that Eddie Nketiah has lost his place from the team. So, a loan move was indeed a better option for him.
At this moment Arsenal and Mikel Arteta are clearly focusing on winning English Premier League, and they are doing whatever it takes to achieve that. In entire this process they are forgetting their academy players. On top of that they are buying players from outside.
Mikel Arteta and the academy players
When Mikel Arteta was building a new project at Arsenal, players like Emile Smith Rowe, Bukayo Saka, Eddie Nketiah, Joe Willock were the revelations for the gunners. Few of them made a permanent place in the first team.
Recently Arsenal have signed a lot of players for the midfield position, and they are performing well. For these reasons the homegrown talents are falling down in the pecking order.
