23-year-old Anthony Gordon wanted to play under Thomas Tuchel. Chelsea came close to signing the winger in 2022. But the move did not go through. The Englishman has gone on to establish himself as key player for Newcastle now. But there are still reports that he may be leaving the Magpies. Liverpool came quite close to signing him this summer. But they were unable to sign him. In the end, they ended up making a deal for Federico Chiesa. Although, some reports suggest that they may revive their interest in the forward now. Nonetheless, the winger’s future pretty much hangs in the balance for now.

Chelsea were facing Everton in the opening game of the 2022/23 Premier League campaign. The Englishman used to play for the Toffees then. The German manager was impressed with the 23-year-old. So much so that Thomas Tuchel would actually go on to compliment Anthony Gordon after the game. As per goal, the Englishman thought that he would be a great fit under the coach following their talk. Although the move would break down and he would end up joining Newcastle instead. He did go on to say that he would love to be a part of the coach’s team some day. Looks like he may finally be getting his chance now.
A chance to shine with England?
The 23-year-old could not join Chelsea. But following the sacking of Gareth Southgate, the Three Lions will be having a new coach at the helm. And it works out even better for Anthony Gordon as the new man in-charge is Thomas Tuchel. So the winger will get his chance to play under the German after all. Hopefully both of them can star for England as they aim to end their trophy drought.
