Arne Slot is keen to sign Leverkusen full-back Jeremie Frimpong

Arne Slot considers Bayer Leverkusen full-back, Jeremie Frimpong, as a top target for Liverpool in the summer. Frimpong was excellent with the Bundesliga champions in the previous campaign.

Liverpool were on road to win the quadruple under Jurgen Klopp’s final season with the Reds. However, the Reds ended up winning only the EFL Cup. The Merseyside Reds would be beaten by Atalanta in Anfield culminating in their Europa League exit. Moreover, Manchester United would knock them out of the FA Cup contention. Subsequently, Liverpool finished 3rd on the league table behind record breaking Manchester City and an impressive Arsenal lineup.

The 23-year old full back is coming off of a phenomenal season with Leverkusen under Xabi Alonso. Leverkusen merely suffered 1 defeat in all competitions the entire season. Unfortunately for them, it would be against Atalanta in the Europa League Final.

However, one cannot undermine Leverkusen’s achievements. They would go on to do the domestic double winning the Meisterschale and the DFB Pokal unbeaten. Jeremie Frimpong would play a crucial role in Leverkusen’s miraculous season. No wonder Arne Slot is keen on securing Frimpong.

Why Jeremie Frimpong for Liverpool?

The 23-year old Dutch international scored 14 goals as a full back. Additionally, Frimpong managed to provide 12 assists across all competitions. Pretty impressive numbers considering his role as a full back.

Moreover, Frimpong is one of the fastest players in Europe giving the defenders a run for their money. The 23-year old’s attacking intent coupled with his speed makes him a menace to the opposition defense. Furthermore, Frimpong is clinical in front of goal and has good composure for finishing as a defender.

As a 23-year old, the fullback has already made appearances closer to the 200 mark. Frimpong has plenty of experience and what better way to shine than to prove yourself in Europe’s best league.

Furthermore, many Liverpool players are considering a move away from Anfield. Especially, since the departure of Liverpool legend Jurgen Klopp as manager. The Reds have already witnessed changes in managerial and coaching staff. Many players like Thiago Alcantara and Adrian are looking to leave for free. Moreover, Real Madrid are constantly keeping an eye on Trent Alexander-Arnold’s situation.

Jeremie Frimpong could be a good replacement for the England international if he leaves. Liverpool are considered a likely destination for the Dutchman. Arne Slot will surely be hoping to use his Dutch roots to draw out Jeremie Frimpong at Anfield.

Arne Slot not the only one who wants Jeremie Frimpong

The 23-year old Dutch full back currently has a £33.8 million release clause in his contract. While Arne Slot will be keen to secure Jeremie Frimpong at Anfield, naturally, the 23-year old has drawn interest from several top European clubs owing to his excellent performances.

Xabi Alonso and Leverkusen will be hoping to hold on to the full back. Especially, after their champions league qualification and the Dutchman’s impact. However, owing to the release clause, many clubs are lining up for the 23-year old.

If Frimpong chooses to stay in the Bundesliga, Bayern Munich could be an alternative. Vincent Kompany’s side are keen on signing the full back. Moreover, Liverpool are not the only Premier League side interested in signing Frimpong. Manchester United are also keeping an eye on the full back. However, the move seems unlikely as the Red Devils haven’t qualified for the Champions League.

Additionally, a move to La Liga may not be completely out of order for Frimpong with Barcelona hoping to sign him. However, given the financial issues, FC Barcelona may bow out of the race if it comes to being a bidding war.

As of now, Frimpong would be hoping to focus on the EURO and win the competition with the Oranje. However, his future will be decided upon soon as the transfer saga continues.
