Arsenal have joined Manchester United in the race for signing Leroy Sane for a free transfer if he fails to agree a deal with Bayern.
Leroy Sane hasn’t been the same since returning from a groin injury in July. The German felt a pain in his groin just after returning from the Euro Cup in 2024. The recurring injury needed surgery before returning to playing just before the start of the season. Anyway he has not hit the previous high yet and hasn’t started a single game this season in the Bundesliga as well as in the Champions League. In addition to that Sane is also in the final year of his contract and yet to agree a deal with Bayern. Embarking on this current situation are Arsenal and Manchester United. Both think themselves as serious options if talks between Sane and Bayern collapse.
LEROY SANE THIS SEASON
Leroy Sane joined Bayern Munich in the summer of 2020 for a deal worth 54 million pounds from Manchester City. Since joining the record champions he has been a crucial player winning 3 Bundesliga titles, a European super Cup and a FIFA Club World Cup. Exciting winger who is pacey and has a really good strong left foot. The winger is yet to show his full potential or at least showcase his previous form for Bayern. Anyway he was considered a crucial player for the German side and is still untouchable according to the Bayern Faithfull. Anyway, recent injuries have made things difficult.
After Germany’s early exit from Euro 2024, Leroy Sane suffered a groin injury. The injury needed a surgery which was done in July this year. Months after returning from injury the German is yet to hit the top form. The injury, then surgery and recovery all left him sidelined for at least a month or two. Precisely saying 72 days according to the Transfermrkt.com. The return also hasn’t been great as he is yet to make a start this season and could only score a single goal in his five substitute appearances. Along with this we should also consider the fact that Sane is in the final year of his contract.
The negotiations are ongoing between the player and the club. The Bayern management are fully confident that Leroy Sane would return to his best after a slow start. With all these going on, there are a few vulture eyes keeping tabs on the situation.
INTEREST FROM ARSENAL AND MANCHESTER UNITED

With all those going on they are ready to pounce upon if Sane fails to agree a deal with the record meisterschale winners. After failing to win the Bundesliga title last season to an invincible Bayer Leverkusen team they are confident to get back into the title race this season. The Bayern faithful still consider Leroy Sane as an integral part of the team and are patiently waiting for his return from injury.
According to the Metro news Bayern’s sporting director, Max Eberl, confirmed that talks over a new deal for Sane are ongoing.
‘Now it’s important that Leroy feels comfortable again and can show what he can do on the pitch again,’ Eberl said.
‘We are in open communication with his agent and as soon as there is a decision, we will announce it.’
The Bild has also reported that Sane’s choice is to stay in Munich but for that to happen he has to take a pay cut and accept the new contract. If at some point the talks between Leroy Sane and Bayern break then he can join any club on a free transfer. And only then Arsenal and Manchester United can consider themselves as serious options. As the negotiations are progressing we have to wait at least until January to say the verdict of the transfer.
