Two Premier League teams have reportedly made last-ditch attempts to sign Lille center-back Sven Botman, Arsenal and Manchester United. The 22-year-old Dutch defender revealed last month that he expects to leave the Ligue 1 outfit this summer. The Dutchman has been strongly linked with Newcastle United and A.C Milan. According to Italian media reports, Newcastle have had an offer accepted by Lille.
Whereas A.C Milan have already agreed personal terms for the defender on a five-year contract to San Siro. Well, there is another twist in the Botman transfer saga. Two Premier League teams have made enquiries over the player’s availability.
WHY DO ARSENAL AND MANCHESTER UNITED NEED BOTMAN?
The two teams Premier League teams to make an enquiry for the defender are Arsenal and Manchester United. The North London side is prioritising attacking reinforcements this summer following the departure of Alexandre Lacazette. But Mikel Arteta is keen to bolster his defensive options. United are also keeping an eye on the situation.
The report also says A.C Milan and Newcastle United are leading the race for Sven Botman. Botman was also linked with Paris Saint Germain. The defender has made a total of 76 appearances for Lille across all competitions. He joined the club in 2020. At the moment, A.C Milan are trying their hardest to agree a fee with Botman. Whereas, Newcastle United who have agreed a fee are trying to convince Botman to join.
If, both the deals fall through, there will be no lack of interest for the Dutch defender. Botman wants his future sorted before he goes on a holiday. He has also said, he wants a whole pre-season with the new club. So the interested clubs have to act fast to close the deal. Agent of Botman is going to meet Newcastle United agents this week. This will be due to the Magpies agreeing a fee with Lille.
