Arsenal have reportedly lined up a €40m (£34m) bid for AC Milan central midfielder Ismael Bennacer. They are targeting the midfielder as a potential move this summer.
Gunners boss Mikel Arteta has been keen to strengthen in central midfield this summer. He has already completed four signings earlier in the window. It also includes Fabio Viera, the midfielder from Porto. It seems likely the manager wants a fresh midfield this season.
GUNNERS ARE STILL IN THE MARKET FOR THE MIDFIELDER
Leicester City’s midfielder Youri Tielemans has been linked the most. The Belgian has entered the final 12 months of his contract with the foxes. Mikel Arteta is said to be a huge admirer of the Belgian. Tielemans is also very keen on signing for Arsenal. However, Leicester City are demanding £25 million for the midfielder. This is despite his contract expiring in 12 months.
There is still a chance, that Arsenal might not secure his signature. However, the Gunners are trying to lower the price for the midfielder. Another problem the discussion has cooled off in recent weeks. This may lead to a suggestion that Arsenal have walked out of the deal. However, it seems the club are already preparing a list of alternatives.
ARSENAL AND ISMAEL BENNACER TRANSFER LINKS FULL STORY
According to reports, Ismael Bennacer is being targeted by Arsenal if they fail to secure Tieleman’s signature. The report also suggests a €40m (£34m) offer is being lined up to test the market for Ismael Bennacer. However, a bid is yet to be reported. There is also no agreement from the player’s side. Bennacer has also not demanded to leave the club.
This proves the player is not yet convinced by the move. However, the chances are the negotiations are still at the initial stage. Bennacer was part of the youth teams at Arsenal between 2015 and 2017. However, he never played for the first team. He signed for Empoli for a fee of less than £1 million in 2017. Milan then swooped to sign the midfielder in 2019 for around £14 million.
He has gone on to make 105 appearances for the club across all competitions. The midfielder has stayed at the club for three years. He made 31 appearances in Serie A during the title win in 2021-22. However, the deal for Arsenal will be tough. The Milan side have already seen Franck Kessie leave for Barcelona on a free transfer. Although, a deal in the latter days of the window cannot be ruled out.
