Mikel Arteta has expressed his concern over midfielder Mohamed Elneny. Elneny has arrived at Arsenal following the international break.
The international break saw the Egyptian midfielder succumb to heartbreak. Egypt lost to Senegal on penalties and have consequently lost their place in the World Cup. Sadly, this was not the first time Elneny was a victim of Senegal’s brilliance on the field. Egypt had lost The AFCON to Senegal a couple of months ago. The AFCON went down the boiler and concluded with a penalty shootout which Egypt lost.
Elneny is back at Arsenal after the international break. His goal would be to help Arsenal to clinch a spot in the top 4 and secure Champions League football. However, Mikel Arteta has voiced his concerns over Elneny. He feels sorry for the midfielder and hopes his teammates cheer him up.
“Well, I think the majority of them had some really good experiences
Some really good performances, they scored some important goals as well.
I’m really sad for Mo Elneny because it’s the second time that has happened and emotionally that means a lot to him.
“So I’m sure the team will be here and ready to help him.”
Elneny’s contract ends in the summer and is likely to leave Arsenal. However, Arteta rates the midfielder highly. The Arsenal boss rates the Egyptian’s presence in the field and the dressing room. He said that Elneny elevates the team and always has a positive mindset which complements the team.
“He has this energy as a person, he goes in a room and he creates an atmosphere.”
“I like a lot players who have zero ego and they play for the team, they want to contribute whatever it is.”
“Whether it’s one minute or 96 minutes, or just by being there and being all the time positive feedback and contribute to our culture.”
