Arsenal Champions League: PSG Triumphs in Semi-Final First Leg

They were awaiting the outcome; charged were the air, the Emirates stadium was so full – indeed, so used to Arsenal. That it seemed into a buzzing semi-final for the Champions League. For tomorrow the Gunners will aim to bring them one step closer to the final by playing against Paris Saint-Germain- a name so grand of glory that it had buried all dreams of a simple road to the final. But, as it turned out at the end of the match, this one would be an awful ringing in the ears of the Parisian while the mountain loomed high for Arsenal.

Arsenal On a night filled with opportunity loss

The philosophy was almost transparent toward the beginning of the Arsenal play: to possess the ball, dictate the rhythm, and find cracks into the PSG structure. Oftentimes brilliant displays of passing confrontations graced some scintillating bouts of attacking football so long associated with Arsenal. Somehow, they just could not convert any semblance of control or dominance into goals.

  • Missed Possibilities: There were truly gaping holes for the forwards to finish PSG off during moments when its midfield was completely exposed. All the chances they kept missing were largely never tested against a sound but uninformed goalkeeper from PSG. They very much played a part in the bitter defeat.
  • Collision in the Midfield: The midfield battle was a battle of styles. Arsenal’s creative midfielders tried/made use of their acumen attempting all kinds of clever passes to break the Parisian midfield with their contrasting styles seized by guts of discipline and character.

Arsenal Striking the Moment

It was evident that everything was coming to an end for Arsenal, who had finally succumbed. Perhaps it was because the moment presented itself with the slightest chances of PSG finding a way through naive Arsenal defending. The dent in their spirits was, therefore, sufficient pressure on the side. They fought hard but failed miserably.

The Author’s Opinion

As a football fan, I have to say Arsenal was a huge disappointment. They should have taken the game by the neck, but there was no angle from which they could approximate that. Their finishing was far from clinical, which compounded their defensive frailties-they let themselves down at the end of it. PSG played a very intelligent and disciplined game and won fair and square by those standards.

Pivotal Factors that Led to PSG Winning the Match

  • Defense Solidity: It was, in fact, the very foundation of a successful defense. They were organized to perfection and practically impossible to breach.
  • Ruthless Finishing: Strike and aggression within the balls.
  • Tactical Discipline: These players did nothing but follow PSG’s game plan to the rats-to make Arsenal surrender through their biggest shortcomings.

Arsenal’s Needs

Right now, Arsenal found itself playing a do-or-die second-leg match:

  • Tighten Up for the Finisher: Arsenal strikers must have direct shots on goal at all times and must score any time there is a chance if they are to have a prayer of winning.
  • Compress Defense: More organization and discipline are called for to build better on the present defensive line of Arsenal since they have several players suffering from fitness concerns.

Conclusion

Arsenal was a huge disappointment. They should have taken the game by the neck, but there was no angle from which they could approximate that. Their finishing was far from clinical, which compounded their defensive frailties-they let themselves down at the end of it. PSG played a very intelligent and disciplined game and won fair and square by those standards.
