Arsenal clear to sign £51M target after Barcelona exit race

The 22 year old Athletic Club forward Nico Williams was a topic of interest last summer. Due to his performance in the Euro 2024, he garnered a lot of attention. Barcelona had almost signed him last summer. But due to last minute deadlines the deal crashed. According to reports from the Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona has dropped out of the race to sign Nico Williams. Providing Arsenal the chance to sign the young talent in the summer transfer window. William is considered a young superstar due to his excellent display in the Euro 2024 for Spain. Barcelona and Arsenal were the interested party to sign the last summer. With Barcelona’s exit it would be great news for the gunners.

Barcelona’s stance:

From being the favorites last summer to dropping from the race can be credited to several reasons. Reports suggests that the Hanshi Flick’s side are not looking for long-term attacking replacements. The club believe in the ability of Robert Lewandowski, the clubs current first choice attackers. With the likes of additional players like Ferran Torres and Dani Olmo. That can provide additional firepower to the side. With the club’s current financial condition as another reason. With La Liga financial fair play adding another player can cause problem for the team. With financial fair play and Barcelona need for removal of existing makes the question of new signing is just not possible.

Arsenal strategy:

Arsenal are in much better financial position than Barcelona. With Arteta the gunner have been in the upward move since his joining. In the last two season they finished second in the table. From being possible top four finish to title winning contenders. The gunners have progressed under Arteta with search for more attacking options. As they look to make a strong squad for winning trophies. Reports suggesting that Arsenal are preparing a bid of £51 million euros to make the transfer possible. Nico is currently under contract in Athletic Club till 2027 and contains a €60million (£51m) release clause.

The player’s statement:

Nico is currently under contract in Athletic Club till 2027 and contains a €60million (£51m) release clause. Nico said that he is currently happy at the club, but states uncertainty at the future. According to reports the Nico wants to set himself before the date of July 15 in any club. So that he gets to play a full season with missing any portion of the half for any team. Nico has a perfect performance in this season with 11goals and 7 assists. That has attracted the attention of many sides.

Author’s opinion:

Barcelona exit from the deal presents a golden opportunity for the gunners. With less competition and a clear plan, they can land a good player that can make instant impact at Emirates. With Arteta’s clear map of vision for future, the gunners will look pretty dangerous. The gunners are also linked with Kingsley Coman, as they look to increase their attacking dept. Only if Arsenal move quickly, they could add a top player like Nico in their team. With Arteta use of young talent, this potential deal for the gunners could make their team a stronger one.
