Arsenal courting a move for Barcelona star Ferran Torres

Arsenal have set their eye on Spanish winger Ferran Torres who has been pushed down the pecking order at Barcelona.

The Gunners are trying to bolster their already packed attack mid-season by bringing in Ferran Torres from Barcelona. A move which could see him reunite with Mikel Arteta who was Pep’s assistant earlier. Torres, who is enjoying regular game time for the Spanish national team, is not doing the same for his club. The chances to start matches have gone meagre after Lamine Yamal and Raphina started setting their standards high. Since that is the case Barcelona would like to cash in on the winger for some money that can aid their ongoing financial crisis. Arsenal and Aston Villa are the two Premier League clubs trying to sign Torres.

FERRAN TORRES AT FC BARCELONA

After one and half seasons with Manchester City also winning two Premier League titles Ferran Torres agreed a move to FC Barcelona during the 2022 January transfer window. The deal was worth around €55 million with €10 million add ons. Even though he had a pretty good first season with Manchester City, injuries and the arrival of Erling Haaland reduced his playing time. Anyway he was bought in at Barcelona as part of Xavi’s rebuilding process. The process failed and was handed over to Hansi Flick earlier this year. Torres was an integral part of the Barca team that won La Liga in the 2022/23 season. He also won the Spanish super cup that season.

Torres’ versatility is something that makes him different. He can play anywhere in the forward line. During his time with Valencia he started as a winger, then Pep Guardiola made a centre forward and at Barcelona he played on either wings and at the centre. Injuries have hampered his progress and made him struggle to find a regular starting position. The birth of Lamine Yamal and the frequent progress he is making along with Raphinha rising into form has pushed him down the pecking order. Ferran Torres is currently injured with a hamstring problem and is set to be out until the 2nd of December according to transfermrkt.com. Yes injuries are a problem for Torres but on his day he is really good. His versatility might be the quality that has attracted the likes of Arsenal and Aston Villa both coached by Spaniards.

INTEREST FROM ARSENAL

Ferran Torres has only started a few matches this term for Barcelona and then was injured again with a hamstring problem. He has already missed nine matches and is going to be out until December. Thinking from the point of Barca, with all that financial issues going on they would not mind cashing in on Ferran Torres in January. The winger has been left out of favour by Hansi Flick. A move that was anticipated since Lamine Yamal rose to prominence cementing his position as the talisman of the team. While Raphinha was reborn under Flick acting as the backbone of Barca attack. The Brazilian showed glimpses last season but a little tweak in his position and role bought the best out of him. It all meant one thing, Ferran Torres was out of the starting eleven. Amidst all this he got injured again.

Anyway according to Sport, his situation has sparked interest from Arsenal, with the Gunners potentially trying to make a move happen in January. A move that could help Arteta bolster his attacking options. Adding the versatility of Torres to the Arsenal attack would be a good idea with the high frequency of matches. The Gunners are not the only team interested in Ferran. As per the reports from GOAL.com Unai Emery of Aston Villa is also an admirer of the Spaniard. Villa are trying to build a squad that frequently qualifies for European competitions. We will know his fate in the coming fates. He was also offered a chance to leave the club on a free transfer in the summer which he rejected.
