The experts thought that Arteta would sell him as he was an Unai Emery signing. However, all the suggestions have turned out to be incorrect. The defender is now one of the first names on the team sheet.
He starts in the center-back position alongside Gabriel Magalhaes. Many have also praised Mikel Arteta for handling the situation of William Saliba this season. This also gives an indication that Arteta is ready to give chances to youngsters if they impress in their loan spells. THE FRANCE DEFENDER IS LOOKING TO MAINTAIN HIS HIGH-PERFORMANCE LEVELS THROUGHOUT THE SEASON
The Arsenal defender has also said that he is happy with the love from the fans. Hence, he is looking to repay the love and trust with his brilliant performances. The defender has also said that he loves it more when fans chant his name during the match. This statement also indicates that Saliba is now more than open to signing a new contract.
He further said,
“The chant? Yeah, of course I’ve heard it [laughs]. I heard it since the beginning”. “I want to give them [the fans] back everyday I’m on the pitch. So, thank you for that.”
Arsenal manager also is optimistic that the defender will soon begin talks on his contract extension. However, he adds that the current focus is to win both the games before the break for the World Cup.
The Arsenal defender will also hope to include in the France national team for the World Cup. Hence, the negotiations on a new contract are likely to start during the January transfer window. Although, a number of reports have claimed that Gunners are in constant conversation with his agent.
