Premier League giants Arsenal wants to sign the new Italian monster Riccardo Calafiori from Italian side Bologna. Arsenal are keen to bring in some new players for the backline to strengthen the defense. Although their two center defenders William Saliba and Gabriel performed outstandingly last season Calafiori will strengthen the back line further.
Last season Arsenal nearly missed out to win the premier league after Manchester City won the league on the final day. Now for the two years running the Gunners have missed the chance to become the Premier League champion, before losing the title both times to City.
Last season the Gunners had the best defensive records in the league, conceding only 29 goals in 38 matches, 5 less than the champion Manchester City. So, there is no doubt that Arsenal have one of the best defense lines in the league. But still, Arsenal Boss Mikel Arteta want to bring someone for the defense line who could help them to ultimately win the premier league title.
Riccardo Calafiori In Bologna
The Italian defender Riccardo Calafiori had a brilliant season with Italian side Bologna last season. Last season the 22-year-old appeared 33 times for Bologna in all competitions and scored 2 goals and bagged 5 assists. Calafiori’s performance helps Bologna to secure a Champions League position for the next season. Last season Bologna conceded only 32 goals in 38 matches, which is the third-best defensive record in the league after Inter Milan and Juventus. Ricardo Calafiori contributed significantly to this defensive record.

Calafiori’s brilliant performance at the club level earned him a position in Italy’s national squad for Euro 2024. And just like the club’s level, the 22-year-old showed his class at the international level. Made 3 appearances for Italy in the euro and provided a crucial assist in the 98th minute in the final group stage match against Croatia to secure Italy’s spot in the round of 16 of Euro 2024. However, Italy failed to go through in the quarter-final after losing to Switzerland in the round of 16 last Saturday.
Will Calafiori Join Arsenal?
According to Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, Arsenal are eager to sign Bologna’s Riccardo Calafiori. The deal will cost the gunners around 40M to 50 M. Calafiori’s joining in the team will raise questions about Gabriel’s future at Emirates. William Saliba played 100% of league games last season for the Gunners. So, Arteta will not be going to bench Saliba. So, Gabriel will get less playing time if Arsenal ends up signing Calafiori in the summer. So, the question remains whether Arsenal really want to bring in a star defender or rely on those defenders that they already have.
Apart from Arsenal, Riccardo Calafiori is also linked with Juventus as the 22-year-old himself wants to join the Bianconeri. However, Bologna’s uneasy relationship with Juventus complicated the situation and they want to sell Calafiori to another European club.
