It was a busy transfer window for the Gunners till the very last day. Arsenal signed five new players this summer and two of them joined have joined on loan. Both the loan players joined the squad on the very last day of the transfer window. Chelsea winger, Raheem Sterling, completed his loan move from Stamford Bridge to Arsenal just before the closure of the transfer window. And after his signing, Arsenal have confirmed that Sterling will wear the number 30 shirt for the current season.
Mikel Arteta was looking for a new winger in this summer transfer window. But the Spaniard failed to get any high-profile winger. Finally, the Gunners decided to sign Raheem Sterling on a season-long loan with no option to buy in the future. Sterling was facing uncertainty at Chelsea since the arrival of the new manager, Enzo Maresca, and wanted to leave the Blues. Arsenal then enquired about the Englishman for a possible move and finally, on the d-day, the deal happened.
Two of Arsenal’s left-wingers have not performed at their best so far. Gabriel Martinelli looks out of form, with Leandro Trossard not looking as sharp as the last season. Trossard is still providing his bit as he scored the opener for Arsenal in the second match week against Aston Villa, which was a crucial match for the Gunners. However, the Belgian international has not been up to the mark. That is the reason why Arsenal wanted to sign a new winger and on the very last day of the transfer window, the Gunners signed Raheem Sterling from their London rivals, Chelsea.
Raheem Sterling will wear the number 30 for Arsenal
Arsenal have confirmed that Raheem Sterling will be the number 30 in his shirt for the upcoming season. Sterling used to wear the number 7 jersey at Chelsea. Now the 29-year-old will start a new journey with the Gunners, dawning the number 30 on his back. Since he joined the club, a lot of speculation had been going on about the shirt number of Raheem Sterling. All the Arsenal fans were waiting to see the jersey number and finally, the club has revealed the number.
After the departure of Emilie Smith-Rowe and Eddie Nketiah, the number 10 and number 14 became available. Apart from those two numbers, the 13, 16, 21, and 31 jersey numbers are also currently available at Arsenal. However, Sterling chose to go with the number 30 for the rest of the season.
Raheem Sterling could start for the Gunners in their match against arch-rivals, Tottenham Hotspur, with the Englishman staying with the club during the two week international break. On the other hand, his fellow left-wingers, Martinelli and Trossard, are currently with their national teams, serving for their respective countries.
Declan Rice is also unavailable for the Spurs match as he was shown a red card in the last against Brighton, leaving the star midfielder out of Arsenal’s next two matches.
