In an unexpected move to bolster their frontline, Arsenal is eyeing a young winger called “the future Eden Hazard.”
The Gunners had been pursuing Raphinha but the move appears to have some roadblocks. Due to a high asking price and Raphinha’s insistence on a move to Barcelona, Arsenal reportedly withdrew from the competition. Instead, the Brazilian is the subject of a bidding war between Barcelona and Chelsea.
The north Londoners are interested in Lille winger Edon Zhegrova, according to Kosovan reporter Arlind Sadiku. Arteta’s team has already made an official offer for the player. This is consistent with the Daily Mail’s April report that the winger is on Arsenal’s shortlist. He has previously drawn comparisons to players like Lionel Messi and Eden Hazard with his superb dribbling.
Do Arsenal Need The Winger?
Although Arsenal recently completed a move for Gabriel Jesus who has previously played on the right, he will most likely play centrally. In this situation, Bukayo Saka is the lone right-sided winger available to the Gunners. Nicolas Pepe, who also came from Lille, is another one who can play in that position. But the Ivorian seems to be on his way out this summer.
Zhegrova can be a suitable backup in that case. He is quite raw at the moment, but we must remember that he is only 23 years old. he has plenty of time to develop, and perhaps Arsenal can be the place to fulfil his potential.
Transfermarkt values Zhergrova at just 4.5 million Pounds. That is quite cheap for a club like Arsenal and will be relatively risk-free. He may turn out to be a bargain if things turn out good for him.
Arsene Wenger was interested in signing Hazard from Lille before the Belgian ultimately joined Chelsea. Maybe Arteta takes a different step from his mentor, and the gamble can pay off.
