Arsenal manager gives hints on the contract of Thomas Partey

Mikel Arteta recently pointed out that he would be open to the idea of Thomas Partey extending his stay at Arsenal. Despite the midfielder’s contract about to finish, Arteta’s comments indicate that a renewal could be on the way. That is only if both parties are willing for it on the future.

Thomas Partey currently is in the ending days of his current contract with Arsenal, which is about to expire at the end of the season. With no extension in near sight, his future at the club remains uncertain.

Thomas Partey has been delivering significant performances throughout the season. He showed his charisma particularly in Arsenal’s Champions League quarter-final clash against Real Madrid. Over both legs, he remained as one of the team’s top notch players. Thus, successfully reinforcing his importance to Mikel Arteta’s lineup during a crucial stage of the campaign.

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta showered light on the situation of Partey. He stated: “Yes, there is progress with all the players. I’ll leave that to Andrea [Berta] and the club to decide and to talk about.”

The only setback for Arsenal at Santiago Bernabeu

Following the momentum of their impressive 2-1 victory over Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabeu on Wednesday night, Arsenal quickly let themselves back to the Premier League. The Gunners return to domestic campaign on Sunday as they are on their way to face Ipswich Town. Thus, aiming to carry their European form and hunger into the league campaign.

Thomas Partey’s yellow card was the only setback Arsenal received on one of their historic triumphs. However, that didn’t falter them in securing a commanding 5-1 aggregate victory over reigning champions Real Madrid. The midweek triumph not only eliminated the holders but also booked Arsenal’s place in the Champions League semifinals for the first time since 2009.

Thomas Partey is tipped to miss the first leg of Arsenal’s Champions League semifinal against Paris Saint-Germain due to suspension. Reporters asked Arteta about how the team plans to manage his absence. However, Arteta chose to remain tight-lipped and didn’t offer much info. Thus, showering little insight into his tactical approach for the crucial clash.

“We have a few options and we’re not going to give anything away. It was a night for the club that was great and that’s it. The best ones are still ahead and to come. We all have a big ambition and big objectives and we are in the right direction. But the next steps are going to be tough and we’re going to have to be at our best.”

How are Gunners coping up in the Premier League?

Liverpool have a chance to secure the Premier League title this weekend if certain results do happen. A win against Leicester would place themselves in position to be new champions. However, only if Arsenal lose to Ipswich, who are also facing the threat of relegation and could see their future fixated on Sunday.

Arsenal have secured only two victories in their last seven Premier League matches. Hence, there is a clear downgrade in form that has raised concerns during the crucial final stretch of the season. Mikel Arteta has been urging his players to respond and regain momentum. That is especially with Newcastle coming close with just four points behind in third place.
