Arsenal will have a busy time in this summer transfer window. Mikel Arteta wants to sign top talents in order to break Manchester City’s title winning streak. One of the positions that’s been widely talked about is goalkeeper. David Raya seems very likely to be signed as permanant player by Gunners. However that signing will force Ramsdale to leave the club in an attempt to gain more playing time. Arsenal have now been linked to Andriy Lunin who just had an amazing season with Spanish giants.
Arsenal signed David Raya on loan last season from Brentford. It is believed that its just a matter of time that Arsenal announce Raya as their permanant player. The Gunners are very likely to trigger the £27 million release clause for the Spaniard. Raya’s arrival has costed Ramsdale heavily. The 26 year old English keeper lost his place as regular starter. To earn more gametime Ramsdale wants to leave the club. However Arteta wants Ramsdale to stay and will only consider selling if any club is willing to pay £30 million.
Arsenal are now linked to Ukrainian keeper who just had an amazing season with Real Madrid. Andriy Lunin played a crucial role in Madrid’s road to champions league victory. However signing him won’t be an easy task for the Gunners.
Arsenal linked with Lunin
According to COPE, Andriy Lunin is thinking about his future at Madrid after an interest from Arsenal. The Ukrainian international has his current contract with Madrid until 2025. Los Blancos have offered Lunin an extension until 2029. However Lunin has not been able to gain the trust of Carlo Ancelotti. Thibaut Courtois has been Ancelotti’s regular starter and it was only until his injury when Lunin got his chance. Courtois is back now and even started champions league final where Madrid emerged victorious against Dortmund. The Belgian keeper was able to keep a clean sheat while winning his second champions league title. Courtois is expected to start on regular basis once again in the next season. This may push Lunin backwards and we may see him taking some important decisions about his future.
Lunin could be making his way into Premier League next season. However it won’t be an easy deal to achieve for Arsenal. The Ukrainian will hope to be a regular starter if he moves away from Madrid. Raya’s arrival on a permanent basis will offer him a starting position in Arsenal. This may be strong turn off for Lunin as he already has the same role at a bigger club than Arsenal. As per now, Lunin is focused on Euros and hoping to continue his superb form with Ukraine.
How good has Lunin been this season
Real Madrid signed Andriy Lunin in 2018 for around £11 million. He was club’s third choice keeper when he signed. Thibaut Courtois has been exceptionally well for La Liga giants and has been their regular keeper for years. This caused Lunin to remain sidelined hoping for action. Lunin’s patience finally paid off as he got a chance to show the world what he is capable of last year. Courtois suffered a serious injury last season which made him unavailable for almost a whole season. Madrid signed Kepa on loan but the Spaniard failed to impress. This started the rise of Lunin.
Andriy Lunin grabbed the opportunity with both hands and put a series of impressive performances throughout the season. The Ukrainian played an important role in guiding Madrid to their 15th UCL title. Luni made 31 appearances across all competitions this season. In La Liga, the Ukrainian made 21 appearances and managed to keep 10 clean sheets in those. He made an impressive amount of 48 saves. However he was no fortunate to play in Champions League final as Courtois was back, fit and ready to take his spot back. If Lunin decides arrive in England, he won’t need an introduction as he already has shown what he is capable of in the match against Manchester City. The Ukrainian made two crucial penalty saves which made Madrid advance to semi-finals. It is safe to say that Madrid won’t have been able to win the 15th UCL title without Andriy Lunin.
