Arsenal and Atalanta drew in their last Champions League match last week, adding to Arsenal’s embarrassment as their troubles continue. Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal team experienced a hectic week with disappointing outcomes following their draw against the top-ranked Manchester City.
Injuries to eight players seem to have stalled Arsenal’s winning momentum, which is not in line with their expectations. After their match against Manchester City, Arsenal saw David Raya, Riccardo Calafiori, and Jurien Timber on the injury list.
Setting aside these new injured players, Arsenal has been without their crucial player and captain, Martin Odegaard, since September.
Martin Odegaard sustained an ankle injury while playing for Norway during the September international break. However, the Norway international has shared positive updates on his rehabilitation while speaking to the media.
On Tuesday, manager Mikel Arteta said that Arsenal captain Martin Odegaard is still weeks away from returning to action due to his ankle injury. In addition, several other players will also miss Wednesday’s League Cup clash at home against Bolton Wanderers.
Oddegard’s Injury Saga
The superstar midfielder suffered ligament damage during a Nations League match against Austria in the September international break.
After injuring his ankle, the 25-year-old midfielder had to leave the field in the 67th minute of the match. The medical staff on the field initially thought that he had just a minor bump, and it did not seem serious.
After the game, medical staff brought him to the facility for a thorough evaluation, where they discovered that he had suffered a ligament injury that may sideline him for weeks.
Talking to programme notes, The Arsenal captain said of his injury: “It was a bad twist to my ankle, and I damaged some ligaments there, but it’s part of football, and now I’m just trying to recover as quickly as I can.”
Odeggard Optimistic On Return
Before Arsenal’s match against Bolton Wanderers in the Carabao Cup, he shared his inclusive thoughts and his injury recovery stage with the media.
“I’m moving forward, making progress and I’m feeling more positive every day. I’m working hard and my only thought is to get back as soon as possible.” He added
Many Arsenal supporters worried about the extent of the injury and how long they might have to wait for the former Real Madrid player to return. Nevertheless, Odegaard appears to be recovering quickly, and he announced his return to the team’s training facility.
He now mostly spends time at the Sobha Realty Training Centre every day, putting in effort and striving to improve.
However, the experts do not expect his comeback shortly, as he could potentially rejoin the team after the upcoming international break, which will follow the 10th of October.
Mikel Arteta On Odegaard
The coach recently shared his opinions on the significance of the midfielder’s absence from the team.
The reporters questioned the manager about when his captain might come back, and he indicated that Odegaard could return to the squad following the October international break. Mikel was uncertain about when Odegaard would return, as he hoped Odegaard would come back only when fully recovered.
What Next For Arsenal?
Arsenal will host Paris Saint-Germain today at the Emirates Stadium for the second round of the Champions League match. Furthermore, they have a hectic week ahead as they will face Southampton just 48 hours later.
Mikel Arteta feels pleased that some injured players are returning to the team as he aims to bring the team back to winning ways.
Mikel Merino, the new signing, might debut this week, and new academy player Ethan Nwaneri and Chelsea loanee Raheem Sterling could all feature against PSG. Further, Mikel Arteta will relieve himself with Martin Odegaard’s return in the second week of October.
Despite the injuries, Arsenal, last season’s runners-up, is determined to dominate and compete for the title. They are a formidable force and aim to continue their momentum from last year.
