There have been multiple reports from Arsenal insider and outsiders for the striker target, Ivan Toney. However, an Arsenal insider has provided a fresh update on the pursuit of the Brentford striker. Toney is back from his ban, and he has looked really good for Brentford in their last few games.
The England international was out on a eight months ban due to gambling charges on him. Although he was a constant link for the Gunners, now it seems that things are draining out. The Brentford man is definitely a bright striker and links with big clubs become obvious.
Moreover, Arsenal also do not have a prolific goal-scorer in their squad. Gabriel Jesus, Nketiah, Kai Havertz and Leandro Trossard can all play in that role though, but cannot guarantee 20 goals a season.
Consequently, many people urged Arteta to sign a serious goal-threat forward in the January window. However, with the January window over, it also seems that the saga between the club and striker is also over. According to Dean Jones talking to GiveMeSport,
“At the moment, even Ivan Toney though is being played down to me. Pople say inside the club that Toney’s not on the radar. We’ll have to wait and see about that because I have heard otherwise. But certainly, Arsenal are going to be in the market for a player of that level.”
Toney seemed to be an obvious choice for Arteta as he has a plenty of Premier League experience in his pockets. However, if he is not on the radar for them there must be some other names in the draft for the club. The likes of Victor Osimhen, Dusan Vlahovic and Joshua Zirkzee have all been linked, and it will be interesting to see who Arsenal will go after.
