Chelsea can’t seem to stop shopping in places she is used to. Either players from Man City or coaching staff from Brighton. And now? If there’s to be another name added to the backroom staff of Arsenal, then they’ve gone straight to them.
As per a reliable report from Training Ground expert, Chelsea have snapped up Mark Mason as their new assistant head of goalkeeping. Astonishingly, Mason has left Arsenal to make his fortune at Stamford Bridge.
And guess what? He’s another ex-Brighton guy. However, Chelsea’s recruitment strategy appears to be as follows:
See Brighton’s past and present staff list.
Pick a name.
Sign them.
On a serious note, this move fits the club’s ongoing rebuild of its backroom staff to match their ruthless approach to the squad.
Chelsea’s Never-Ending Rebuild – Can They Get It Right?
In a tricky position are the Blues. Their overall season has not been too smooth, although a convincing 4-0 win over Southampton recently should lead them to bounce back online. Fans had some relief after Christopher Nkunku, Pedro Neto, Levi Colwill and Marc Cucurella all found the net.
Is beating a struggling team really what it means that things have turned back around? Honestly, Southampton were playing with the controller disconnected.
But Pedro Neto shone in the most unusual of number 9 roles. When asked about it, he apparently answered hilariously (more hilarious than what I’m writing).
Arsenal to Chelsea – Another Step Towards Stability?
Mason’s appointment is Chelsea’s attempt to add new blood to their coaching staff and especially in the goalkeeping ranks. Some Chelsea fans will cry foul that the club should have signed a more reliable number 1 instead of a new coach, and hopefully, Robert Sánchez will put those moments behind him now.
However, if you also have a strong backroom staff, you can be successful in the long run. It will be a new experience for Mason, who comes to Southampton from Arsenal and Brighton, the sort of clubs with a reputation for a structured way of developing goalkeepers.
