Arsenal to face competition for their pursuit of Florian Grillitsch

Many reports heavily linked Florian Grillitsch with Arsenal over the course of the summer transfer window. The Gunners are short in numbers in the middle of the pitch which Arteta wants to solve. Also, Grillitsch is now a free agent whose contract ended with Hoffenheim after the end of the recently-concluded season. But now Arsenal might suffer a blow in his pursuit as Brighton and Hove Albion in the race. Mike McGrath, the Telegraph journalist broke this latest news.

Who’s ahead – Arsenal or Brighton?

According to him, Florian Grillitsch will also fit the Arsenal wage bill perfectly, something that concerns Arteta. Grillitsch left TSG Hoffenheim after the expiration of his contract putting an end to his 5 year career there. The Telegraph journalist also mentioned that ‘the Austria international could well be making the move to the Premier League this summer, but it is Brighton who have made their move.’

While tweeting from his official Twitter account, McGrath wrote the following:

“Brighton are in talks over an audacious move for Austria midfielder Florian Grillitsch as a free agent from under the noses of top European clubs. Arsenal had looked at the 26 year old after his Hoffenheim contract expired.”

As for Brighton, they already sold one of their best player Yves Bissouma to Arsenal’s arch rivals Tottenham Hotspurs. Now Graham Potter’s side will definitely look forward to fill that void. Grillitsch can be a decent signing for them. Also, the Seagulls don’t have to pay a penny to any other club to lure him.

Grillitsch can be the perfect player to replace Yves Bissouma. He can play both as a No.6 as well as in an advanced No.8 position making him quite versatile in the middle of the pitch. However, the player also has same recurring injury issues that limited him to participate in only 18 games for his club last season.
