As the current club football campaign is coming to an end within a few days, the top clubs are looking to strengthen their squad, including Arsenal. And there’s a new sensation named Aaron Hickey according to the reports whom Arsenal would love to sign.

Current full-back status at Arsenal

Arsenal had issues with their first choice full-backs this season that set them back. The duo of Takehiro Tomiyasu and Kieran Tierney missed a significant part of the season and Arsenal paid the consequences. However, Cedric Soares and Nuno Tavares did quite okayish in fragments. But the fans will agree that the quality difference between both duos is quite considerable.

Another key point, Hector Bellerin, and Ainsley Maitland-Niles are both certain to leave the club permanently this season. No wonder, Arsenal jumped early in the transfer market to address their woes with respect to this position.

With European nights coming back at the Emirates from next season, Arsenal is keeping tabs to boost themselves. Consequently, the Gunners are pushing to sign Bologna FC left-back Aaron Hickey for a reported fee of €20 million, according to Scots Abroad Pod.

Other Italian sources also linked the Scotsman with a transfer away to Arsenal. Via SportsMole, Radio Kiss Kiss Napoli reported Juventus and Napoli registered interest alongside Arsenal.

WHY HICKEY?

The 19-year-old moved to Italy in 2020 and played alongside Tomiyasu previously. He also played alongside Tierney as he earned a couple of caps for Scotland at such a young age. Perhaps, this might come in handy in securing a deal between both the parties.

Despite his tender age, he is a regular for the Italian club and excelled as a left-wing-back in the attacking half. He scored 5 goals and assisted once in 33 appearances for his current club.

Other than playing his part as a left-back, Hickey is quite versatile. He can also fill in as a right-back when called upon to do so. Moreover, Arteta is building a young squad and Hickey can be a key player for the Emirates Stadium outfit given his potential.
