Wolves and Arsenal could workout a record-breaking move this summer. The Gunners looking to solve their striker problem with this deal.
Wolves and Arsenal’s potential deal
Wolverhampton Wanderers are the club with second most spend in the Premier League in January. Although their main business was clearly far away from revenues or sales totally.
Their manager Vitor Pereira has had a busy January and early February. He made three new signings in this winter market. He added two defenders and one midfield player to his squad.
Emmanuel Agbadou from Stade de Reims was the first new arrival in January. They signed him for £16.6 million. The Ivory Coast international quickly joined Pereira’s three-man defense.
At the his mature age of 27, the central defender is in his prime years. He has improved and changed smoothly to the Premier League. He also completed full 90 minutes in each of his last four English top-tier matches.
Marshall Munetsi and Nasser Djiga were two more players signed after the 11 pm deadline. Munetsi is a highly talented central midfielder from Reims. He joined the team in an key £17 million transfer.
Djiga, however, came from Red Star Belgrade, a top Serbian club. He was signed for a fee near £10 million. He has played Red Star’s every Champions League game this season. The player was also a target for Premier League side Nottingham Forest.
Munetsi played a major role in Reims’ midfield for five seasons in a row. He recently received man of the match award in a 1-1 away draw against Paris Saint-Germain.
Wolves offered new contract to Cunha
Wolves’ business in the transfer window will hopefully turn out to be great. But the most important deal made by them was clearly getting Matheus Cunha to sign on a new contract.
Cunha’s decision to stay will have a huge boost on Vitor Pereira’s team. They’re currently fighting relegation. The forward has scored eleven goals and made four assists. He has played 23 Premier League games so far this campaign.
The Brazilian is leading the numbers for his team, with Jorgen Strand Larsen just behind him scoring seven goals this season. Rayan Ait-Nouri has been creating great chances. He has assisted five times so far. Only Ait-Nouri has better creative numbers than Cunha.
The Wolves’ no.10 has signed a new contract for four-and-a-half years. With that he’ll now be the club’s highest earner. Earlier Pablo Sarabia was the one being paid the highest. However, the attacker may not be staying anywhere near his new deal suggests.
A release clause was always going to save Cunha if his side gets relegated to the Championship. The release clause was the vital point throughout the negotiations. As it suggests, Wolves won’t even have to face relegation for the clause to come into effect. It is surely a huge boost for interested clubs.
Matheus Cunha’s Future
As per the Telegraph, the Brazilian will be allowed to leave from July onward. The Old Gold will be expecting bids around €75 million (£62.5 million). That fee would hit Wolves’ record sale. That means Man Utd, Forest and Arsenal could sign him after July.
Arsenal are still in race for the Premier League title. They have struggled in the attacking sense this campaign. Bukayo Saka will be ruled out till March. And Gabriel Jesus will also miss the second half of the season.
With Gabriel Martinelli also picked up a hamstring injury, his availability is also doubted. The Gunners are still missing a proper striker. Cunha will surely have an impact in Mikel Arteta’s squad. His ability to score and create good chances will be of great help for Arteta’s side.
Author’s Opinion
Arsenal haven’t had the winter transfer window as they expected. They didn’t make a single signing in January.
With Cunha’s availability after July, Arteta may again try his luck to get his potential proper centre-forward after all.
