Arsenal transfer news updates as the hunt for a striker goes on, as injuries to key players like Saka and Jesus have made them desperate for making some signings.
Arsenal Transfer News: The Striker Hunt Goes On
The head coach Mikel Arteta has confirmed that his side are now desperately looking to sign a striker. Double injury blow has got the club into searching for options in this January window.
Injuries to Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Jesus have had the Gunners lacking attacking strength in the final third. Arteta said that they’re making a move to bring a forward sooner. If not in this window, they’ll surely have plans in the summer.
The Gunners will be missing the attacking pair due to the injuries. Jesus is expected to be out for the rest of the season.
Saka got injured after he tore his hamstring last month. He has been recovering since his surgery. But it seems that he’ll not be available until early days of March.
Arteta on Arsenal’s Transfer News On Signing a Striker
The manager has been clearly seen saying that his club is looking for recruits. He also stated how his side are going to handle the current situation. They were planning to bring new players in the summer, but that may not be the case now.
Mikel said,”We never just plan a ‘window’.
“We have a plan, we look at the squad, how we are going to evolve it, what we have in the academy, how we are going to change that and adapt.
“From there, what you plan and the picture that we have….either we are really bad at planning or nobody could see we would have that much injuries. You have to adapt whatever the plan is.
“We have lost two massive players for us in the front line and we need some support there.
“Obviously we have more necessity now because of what happened in the last few weeks. That’s obvious.
“I think it’s more a question for (interim sporting director) Jason (Ayto). I don’t know, but I think we have to do what we think is right and we can do as well. And that’s it.
“It’s clear that we would like to improve the squad, especially with what happened. Can we do it or not depends on other factors.”
Who Could Be Their Options?
Former England and Arsenal forward Theo Walcott told BBC Sport,” It’s like everyone else has said before, Arsenal need a striker at this time because it would have been a completely different story.”
So who will be their available options that could fit into the North London squad?
Lille forward Jonathan David is currently the joint top goal scorer in France’s Ligue 1. He also scored four Champions League goals this season so far.
The 24-year-old Canada international has been in a decent form this season. He could be one of the affordable options with his contract expiring this summer.
Ipswich Town’s Liam Delap could be another option. The 21-year-old has been performing well for his club since his arrival.
Manchester City sold him for an initial fee of £15m in the summer. He scored eight goals so far and has been creating great chances for the club.
Another player who has a great potential is Aston Villa‘s Jhon Duran. The Colombia international has been named as the ‘super sub’ for the club. He has often scored vital goals coming off the bench.
He has already signed a long-term contract at Villa in October. With Ollie Watkins as the side’s main forward, he could be available for grabs.
