Arsenal dream run in the UEFA Champions league came to an end after their semifinal defeat. With the French side Paris Saint German with an total aggregate score of 3-1 over the two legs semis. The French side won both the legs of the semis winning by 1-0 in the Emirates, the home ground of the Gunners. In the second leg they won 2-1 defeating the Gunners over both the legs, home and away of the semifinals. Despite a good effort to overcome the goal lead for a comeback the Gunners lost. Making it another season without any trophies for the North London side. With this season also without a trophy, the Gunners are now five seasons without any taste for trophy. Mikel Arteta’s side won their last trophy in the year 2020 with a FA cup. Since then, the Gunners have not won any trophies.
First leg of Arsenal vs PSG:
The first leg of the clash at the Emirates Stadium saw the Gunners maintain the higher possession and create a number of good chances to score. But they failed to score their chances to find the back of the net. However the away team PSG scored the goal with the only chance they got in the starting of the game with the help of Ousmane Dembele. Though the Gunners were creating a number of chances PSG’s goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma was the standout performer saving every shot that were produced by the Gunners. Other than the defense of French side managing their role stopping any crucial attack from the Gunners. Arsenal’s inability to convert their chances set the tone for the tie.
Second leg of Arsenal vs PSG:
In the second leg of the match at Parc des Princes, the home ground for the French side. The Gunners from the first whistle attacked with full and high press and controlling the early stage. With the three brilliant goal scoring shots in the very first ten minutes of the game. But PSG’s goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma was again the standout performer saving every shot that were produced by the Gunners. PSG were looking very dangerous in the counter attack with the likes of Desire Doue and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia. With the help of this counter attacks PSG scored the first goal thanks to Fabian Ruiz with a miss clearance from Thomas Partey giving them a 1-0 lead at the first half. In the second half starting Vitinha got an wonderful chance to score from the spot after getting an penalty kick due to hand ball. He was denied by David Raya which gave PSG some hope. Bukayo Saka pulled one back for Arsenal shortly after, but it was too little, too late. As Achraf Hakimi doubled their aggregate lead with a well-taken goal in the 72nd minute. Ending the match with a win for the French side 2-1 with an total aggregate of 3-1.
Looking Ahead:
