Arsenal started the new Premier League season on a positive note, earning all six points in their first two matches. After losing the title back-to-back to Manchester City, the Gunners are looking to chase for the Premier League title again this season. And that determination is clearly shown on the Pitch by Mikel Arteta’s men. The Gunners beat Wolves at home to start their Premier League journey, followed by a win over Aston Villa away from home on the weekend.
The Aston Villa game was not particularly easy for the Gunners. Villa were the only team who beat Arsenal twice last season. And just like last season, Unai Emery’s men were causing problems for the Gunners in the match. But Arsenal passed the test thanks to two second-half goals by super-sub Leandro Trossard, and the midfielder Thomas Partey. Just two minutes after coming off the bench, Trossard found the net and gave the Gunners a one-goal lead in the game. And with Partey’s goal, Arteta managed to secure all three points against Aston Villa.
Arsenal’s next three fixtures
Up next, Arsenal face three big Premier League giants in their next three fixtures. The difficult run of fixtures starts with Brighton at home, then arch-rivals Tottenham away from home and, finally defending champions Manchester City away from home. So, the upcoming four weeks will going to be very challenging for the Gunners.
Arsenal vs Brighton
Brighton are one of the four teams in the Premier League this season to have won their first two games alongside, Manchester City, Arsenal, and Liverpool. Brighton scored five goals in their last two games and conceded only one. The Seagulls beat Manchester United at home on Saturday, and their playing style looks very promising under the new manager.
Brighton signed Fabian Hürzeler as their new manager at the start of this season. So, all these factors could cause problems for Arsenal and Mikel Arteta’s men. The last time Arsenal lost to Brighton was in 2022. Since then, these two have met three times and Arsenal have won every single time.
Arsenal vs Tottenham
After Brighton, Arsenal will go head-to-head with their arch-rivals, Tottenham Hotspur. Tottenham secured four points in their first two matches and are currently in 5th spot in the point table. After drawing their first match against Leicester City, Spurs crushed Everton by four goals to nil at home at the weekend.
Last season Arsenal were unbeaten against Tottenham, securing one win and one draw against their rivals. The last time Tottenham came out as the better side between these two was back in 2022, when Tottenham beat their rivals 3-0 at home. So, Tottenham will certainly look up go for a win to break this run, while the Gunners will try to maintain the unbeaten run against their North London rivals.
Arsenal vs Manchester City
Finally, Arsenal will travel to Manchester for the match against defending champions, Manchester City. This is arguably one of the most important matches of the Premier League calendar. The Gunners lost the last two Premier League titles to the Citizens and they don’t want to let that happen again. Last season Mikel Arteta won his first match as a manager against Pep Guardiola, after Arsenal beat City at home by 1-0. And at the end of the last season, these two met again in Manchester. But that was a quiet match as both sides settled for a nil-nil draw.
Arsenal fans will hope for a win over City, same as the last year. But it will not be an easy task for the Gunners. Since the match against Arsenal last season, Manchester City have won every single Premier League match home game, including their first one at home this season. City are currently on the top of the table thanks to the goal difference. So, It will be an interesting matchup when these two will meet in Manchester on September 22.
