Arsenal have reportedly struck a significant blow to the transfer plans of Premier League rivals Manchester United and Chelsea. The Gunners have allegedly reached an agreement with Napoli striker Victor Osimhen, marking a potential turning point in the league’s striker landscape.
Both Manchester United and Chelsea have faced criticism throughout the season for their lack of potency in front of goal. With 31 and 38 Premier League goals respectively, the two clubs are searching for solutions to bolster their attacking options.
However, Manchester United have shown signs of improvement in recent weeks, thanks in part to the resurgence of Rasmus Hojlund. Similarly, Chelsea, despite their lavish spending under the Todd Boehly-led consortium, have struggled to find a prolific striker since their takeover in 2022.
Goal scoring crisis for the English clubs
Arsenal, although not facing as acute a scoring crisis as their counterparts, are also in the market for reinforcements upfront. With doubts lingering over the capabilities of their current striking duo, Gabriel Jesus and Eddie Nketiah, the Gunners have identified Osimhen as a prime target to bolster their attacking ranks.
According to reports, Osimhen is determined to depart Napoli in summer, with Arsenal emerging as his preferred destination. The Nigerian international recently penned a contract extension with Napoli, which includes a release clause worth a staggering €130m (£112m).
While both Manchester United and Chelsea had contemplated moves for Osimhen, it appears that Arsenal have sealed the deal. Reports suggest that Mikel Arteta has secured a verbal agreement with Osimhen, paving the way for his arrival at Arsenal.
Former CBS Sports journalist Ben Jacobs has hinted that Chelsea could be leading the race for Osimhen’s signature. However, financial considerations could sway the decision, with all three English clubs facing potential budget constraints in the upcoming window.
As the summer transfer window approaches, the race for Victor Osimhen’s signature promises to be a compelling saga, with Arsenal’s audacious move shaking up the established order in the Premier League’s striker market.
