Arsenal had lost 3-0 to Crystal Palace on Monday which have slightly dampened their Champions League hopes. Mikel Arteta has spoken out after the shocking loss.
Mikel Arteta has come out and apologized for Arsenal’s shocking performance against Crystal Palace. Arsenal went on to lose the game 3-0 at a crucial stage in the tournament. Owing to the loss, The Gunner have tied with rivals Tottenham with them being on top due to Goal Advantage. However, Arsenal have a game in hand and have to be at their level best to claim Champions League Football. Arsenal have been out of the competition since 2017 and will be hoping to change their fortune this season. Arsenal currently have the best odds of finishing top 4.
Arteta was apologetic to the Arsenal fans after the loss which has created a roadblock to their Champions League spot. He said,
“We weren’t at the races today, especially in the first half, We were late to every ball, soft in the duels and didn’t earn the right to play
When we did a little bit we were sloppy on the ball and we didn’t have any dominance, any sequences of play where we could take some control of the game and we conceded two poor goals.
Overall it’s unacceptable, we put our hands up, apologize, regroup.”
He then discussed the importance of winning the 50-50 duels as more often than not the team with the most 50-50 duels ends up winning the game.
“We discussed it just before kick-off, the way you win here is when you compete the way you should, That means you win duels, have a presence and the composure on the pitch to manage certain situations
They are a really physical team and the pitch is not the best to do that so you have to find a way to do other things that usually you don’t have to do. We didn’t manage to do that.
