AS Roma are believed to be preparing a move for Alexandre Lacazette of Arsenal. The Gunners frontman is tipped to be an alternative to replace Edin Dzeko.
The Bosnian is close to sealing a move to Inter Milan who are selling Romelu Lukaku to Chelsea. According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, the Serie A side have enquired about Lacazette’s availability.
Roma were originally on course to target Tammy Abraham as a replacement. However, they are now led to believe that the Englishman would prefer a move to the Emirates.
Complications with Roma
However, despite the Serie A side’s interest in the 30-year-old, there are two things possibly preventing the move.
Firstly, Lacazette only wants to join a club competing in the Champions League. Roma will be playing in the Europa Conference League after finishing 7th in Serie A. Secondly, the poor relationship between the Gunners and Roma. Granit Xhaka was heavily linked with to the Rome-based club before it fell through.
Jose Mourinho is eager to strengthen his attack this season. Mauro Icardi was a mojor target for the Portuguese. Yet, Lacazette looks to the more viable option.
The Frenchman has one year left on his contract at Arsenal. It is not surprising that Lacazette is linked with a move away this summer. It is fair to say that he has not met expectations with the Gunners. Rather, he has been underwhelming.
With a tally of 65 goals in 170 appearances, he has been a poor return on their investment. Adding to that, the Frenchman has been repeatedly played out of position.
The 30-year-old forward has the flair to prosper in the Serie A. A reduced pace likely to provide him with more opportunities to find the back of the net.
