Aston Villa have been praised for not selling Douglas Luiz on the summer transfer deadline day. The midfielder was linked to a move to Arsenal.

However, Steven Gerrard and the hierarchy refused to sell him. The midfielder is currently into his final year of the contract with the club.

ARSENAL AND DOUGLAS LUIZ TRANSFER LINKS FULL STORY

Aston Villa legend Gabriel Agbonlahor has praised the club for not selling Douglas Luiz to Arsenal. The star midfielder was linked to a move to Arsenal. However, the club decided to reject the bid for their star midfielder. The report also states that the midfielder had agreed on personal terms over a possible move to the Emirates. However, it was too little, too late for Arsenal to approach with a bid.

Steven Gerrard also said the same. He said, “Speaking about the situation, Gerrard said:

“I have confidence that he’ll understand the situation and the club’s decision that we didn’t want to lose a very important player and a top player so late in the window.

The Aston Villa manager also said he had no concerns about his professional conduct in the training.

ASTON VILLA HAVE MADE THE RIGHT DECISION BY NOT SELLING THEIR STAR MIDFIELDER

Gabriel Agbonlahor has said that the club has made the right decision by not selling him. He also adds that the club did not have an adequate amount of time to replace him. The club legend also added,”

“We’re getting a bit unlucky now with injuries. [Diego] Carlos was one, that was a big one because he would have been a guaranteed starter. Now it’s Kamara.

The striker also adds

It just shows how important it was to keep Douglas Luiz and not let him go to Arsenal. Clubs like Villa have been clever. You have to think long-term, it’s a long season and injuries can happen to anyone so you can’t just have a small squad.”

The midfielder will now be more than important to the Aston Villa midfield department.

Aston Villa manager Steven Gerrard will also have to trust the capabilities of Marvelous Nakamba. The midfielder has been reduced to a bench role since the signing of Boubacar Kamara. However, the Zimbabwean midfielder will get more chances to play with Douglas Luiz due to the injuries.
