Aston Villa to complete Robin Olsen signing soon

As per reports, Aston Villa are ‘getting closer’ to sign to secure their next summer signing. Other than the signings of Philippe Coutinho permanently, Boubacar Kamara for free and Diego Carlos, they also almost completed a deal for the Swedish goalkeeper Robin Olsen.

All things considered, Robin Olsen will be a permanent player for Steven Gerrard’s side from next season. Until now, the goalkeeper was on loan at the Midlands club from the Italian side AS Roma. The Serie A club initially loaned out the Swedish international to the Championship side Sheffield United. But in January, Gerrard set his eyes on him and enquired of his availability. Olsen cut his loan spell for the Championship club short and joined the Villa Park outfit.

Aston Villa already boast of a quality goalkeeper in Emiliano Martinez. The Argentine joined Villa in the summer of 2020 from the London club Arsenal. Back then he just won the FA Cup and Community Shield for The Gunners as well as quite instrumental in both of their truimphs. However, in a quite surprising fashion they decided to part ways for €17.4 million.

Romano on Olsen to Villa

Since then, Emi Martinez have been quite brilliant overall for Villa. In the recently concluded campaign, he kept 11 clean sheets in 48 appearances for the club. For Argentina,

he won the 2021 Copa America and yesterday the Finalissima agaisnt Italy. Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano provided an update on the transfer. He said: “Aston Villa are getting closer to find full agreement with AS Roma on Robin Olsen deal. Buy option clause for €3.5m expected to be triggered soon, as Aston Villa want to keep Olsen at the club.”

On the other hand, Robin Olsen made his debut for Aston Villa in their last PL matchday against Manchester City. The 32-year old conceded 3 goals in that match.
