Australia, England wins result of Shardul’s performances- Sunil Gavaskar

Shardul Gavaskar, Six Sports

Former India batting legend Sunil Gavaskar is all praises for India’s bowling all-rounder Shardul Thakur, saying that he was the reason India won the Gabba Test against Australia in January 2021.

Shardul, who was a part of the playing XI at the Gabba, notched 67 runs at no.8 and also scalped 7 wickets in the match that gave India a historic win over the Aussies.

In England, he got two fifties batting at the same position and became the sixth cricketer in Test history to achieve this feat. He got this achievement at the Oval.

In the ongoing Test series against South Africa, Shardul took a 7-wicket haul at Wanderers, Johannesburg during South Africa’s first innings. He is the sixth Indian to get a five-wicket haul in South Africa’s Johannesburg.

Shardul is the kind of player you want in the team, he gives his 100 per cent- Sunil Gavaskar

Sunil Gavaskar lavished praises on Thakur and talked about his recent performances in Australia and England.

When Bumrah and Shami were not available to play, he not only got seven wickets but also a half-century to his name. He was one of the chief architects behind India’s win at the Gabba. And in England, there were occasions when the Indian team didn’t post many runs. He came in and smashed half-centuries in both innings. He’s also kept picking two odd wickets in each innings.

The 30-year-old also gives his 100 percent in every game according to Gavaskar and is never complaining.

He is just the kind of player you want in your team. He gives his 100 per cent. He knows he is not going to always be a certainty and hence, the trying never stops. He understands what he needs to do and gives it all every time without any complaints.

Gavaskar also said that Shardul is a “trier” and deserves fully his recent five-wicket haul against South Africa.

A batter is facing Shami and Bumrah and he suddenly is up against a bowler (Shardul) who is 5-10 kph slower. He can think to score some runs but Shardul bowls just around the off-stump and gets the ball to move away. Bavuma was down the pitch even before the ball was released and Shardul smartly bowled it short. He fully deserves his five-wicket haul as he’s such a great trier.
