Since the departure of Lionel Messi, nothing has fallen into place at the Catalan club. While FC Barcelona are desperate to get back to their long-lost glory, they are failing miserably. This time, a new deal has emerged in the headlines concerning two clubs that cannot see each other eye-to-eye. Both on and off paper, the deal is somewhat hillarious to look at both on and off paper. The deal concerns Chelsea trying to offload one of their players that they bought during a shopping spree, and FC Barcelona has taken some interest. Everyone is aware of Chelsea and their American boss trying new experiments with money. While the money is overflowing, some players with abysmal quality need to be removed. The Premier League ‘financial fair play’ also has concerns due to which gaining funds has resulted in this. The player in this question is 20 year old Carney Chukwuemeka.
Barcelona interested in Chukwuemeka: Chelsea making a profit?
Even if one does not wants to be harsh on the 20 year old it is baffling in the first place why Chelsea made the deal. The kid was bought in 2020 with a price of 20 million pounds which was quite a lot. The ROI has not been fruitful and thus Chelsea is selling the player. The shocking part is FC Barcelona being interested in someone who has made nearly 27 appearances over the span of 2 years. It is true that the player is quite young and it is too soon to make a comment. However, weird deals seems like a plate that Barcelona enjoys. Over the past few years we have seen players like Raphina and Adama Toure being bought at the camp nou. We haven’t seen something tremoundous about them lately and the deals can safely be called a failure.
Carney Chukwuemeka is likely to be an addition in the Barcelona squad in the final few days of the transfer window. The player who has been driven by injuries does not seem like one to adapt to the Spanish weather. It is very rare for English players to travel abroad and make an impact. The last time an English lad made a name for himself in Barcelona was Gary Linekar which feels like centuries ago. Nowadays although the times are changing with English players making a name for themselves outside England and Wales, this deal however seems to be on the negative side. Chukwuemeka has gained interest from AC Milan too and has a release clause of 40 million pounds. With such an young age he is yet to prove himself and might just do so under Hansi Flick. It is however concerning why other PL clubs have’t apptoached him.
Positives from the deal
Chelsea and Barcelona still have a bitter sweet face against eachother and it shows. It is not one of the top players that is moving to the Spanish side but can be considered as a major offloading. However, there still remains a positivity to the deal. In a way this deal could save Chukwuemeka’s career. He is not someone who fits immediately in Enzo Maresca’s plan. With players like Cole Palmer and new recent addition to the squad in forward line, the 20 year old is definitely going to the reserves and might not even get the opportunity to warm the bench in big matches. Chelsea has deeper role players. Hansi Flick with his long term plan should find comfort with a good backup. Also a lot of outlets have considered Chuwuemeka as strong and versatile.
Chelsea still wants to keep their player and they will not sell him unless they acquire a profit. Only time will say if he is a proper fit for Barcelona but clearly for now Chelsea has the upper hand in the profit making part of the deal.
