Barcelona may terminate the contract of Martin Brathwaite

Barcelona are looking to offload Martin Brathwaite in the coming days. The Danish striker is not in Xavi’s plans this season.

He arrived as an emergency signing for Barcelona from Leganes in 2020. However, he has shown himself to be a decent player who chipped in with goals from time to time.

However, Brathwaite suffered a serious injury which kept him out for a prolonged period of time. Now, Barcelona have one of the best strikers in the world in Robert Lewandowski. It looks unlikely that Braithwaite will get any minutes. He is on hefty wages, which makes his sale even more important given the Catalans’ precarious financial situation.

The club’s search for fullbacks and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s likely exit have largely dominated the news around Camp Nou during the previous week. Javi Galan, Indigo Martinez and Marcos Alonso are some of the names floating around in the full-back department. Chelsea are interested in Aubameyang, which makes the possibility of a swap for Alonso possible. But the sale of Martin Brathwaite can also be a top priority for the La Liga giants in this final week.

The Stance on Brathwaite

Since the beginning of the year, the former Middlesbrough man has been falling behind the pack and has little chance of playing for Xavi’s first squad in the upcoming campaign. Ansu Fati and Lewandowski are preferred over him.

Barcelona is eager to get rid of him by the end of the month because of this. However, the player’s refusal to accept other offers has forced the team to think about terminating his contract.

Braithwaite, according to Marca, is seeking a fee of about €5 million from Barcelona as well as a freedom letter that might hasten his departure to another club. The next few days shall make his situation clearer.
