According to several reports, Barcelona have had an initial contact with Roberto Martinez to take up the Catalan manager job. There have been already rumors about Martinez being the top priority for Barcelona in replacing Koeman. But the Belgium coach seems to deny all the rumors and refusing to take up the Barcelona job. However, the latest reports seem to tell a different story now.

Ronald Koeman’s job at Barcelona have been in risk since he lost the Champions League opener against Bayern Munich. Later as per reports, the Catalan board had given the dutchman a three-match ultimatum to save his job. However, after the last two results, it seems he has failed to pass the three-match test.

Barcelona’s second last match was against Granada in La Liga which was a 1-1 draw. Granada had an early lead in the match and the Catalan struggled to score a goal. However, at the dying moments, Barcelona defender Ronald Araujo saved the day with a header at making it 1-1.

And the Catalans’ last match was against Cadiz which was again a draw but this time a goalless. While Barcelona faced a setback as Frenkie de Jong was shown a red card for a challenge. And Ronald Koeman was also shown a red card due to his protest. Following Koeman’s red card, he will be serving a two-match man.

However, it might be the last time we have seen the Dutchman in the Catalan dugout as his sacking news is already firing up. While reports suggest that Barcelona have already held initial talks with Roberto Martinez for replacing Koeman.

When we might see Roberto Martinez taking up the Barcelona job?

Roberto Martinez is currently carrying out his Belgium job as his contract with is until the 2022 World Cup. However, he might be thinking of taking up the Barcelona job after 8th October, 2021. As Belgium will be playing against France in the Nations League semi-final on 8th October. And he would like to leave the national team job after seeing them through to the final.

While the Spanish coach has to pay a price of 1.5 million if he leaves Belgium in October. The introduction of Martinez in the Barcelona side could be a gamble as the Spaniard has not seen much success in club managing career. But a positive change is a must need in the Catalan club after all those poor results and disappointment. And Roberto Martinez could surely light up the team following his results from the Belgium job.
