BBL 21-22: Bowlers still hold the key in the batter’s game

, Six Sports

T20 cricket is known for the big hits and mammoth sores. People say it’s the 4’s and 6’s that keep the game alive and entertaining to the present day. But is it actually true or just a myth? While the ongoing edition of the BBL has witnessed the Scorchers bowling unit unleash carnage against opposition teams. Batter’s game is more of a misnomer than what the Perth Scorchers have proved and their invincibility in the league is a bright example.

Their ability to take wickets early in the innings dismantles the batting unit of opposition teams and has well contributed to the cause of them being undefeated so far in KFC BBL 11. The first 2 overs also known as the power surge allow only 2 fielders outside the 30-yard circle. The rule that favors the batters to make the most out of it faces contrasting results if Perth Scorchers are the bowling team.

The Perth camp faces a great yet absurd problem of plenty about picking their bowlers. The excellence with the ball is unmatched compared to the rest of the sides. Pacers like Matthew Kelly who came up with spectacular figures of 4-28 in their opening fixture have been warming the bench for the past few matches.

Thus speaks highly about the squad of the Perth Scorchers. Scorchers are one of the most successful teams of the BBL, and their experience of the T20 format has definitely contributed to creating a mighty side.

Recently after their sensational victory on the Hobart Hurricanes, in-form spin bowling all-rounder Ashton Agar reflected on his team’s success mantra in the 1st leg of the marquee league,

“Our starts have been so good every game,

We’ve got teams behind straight away and then when it comes to the power surge we’re so far in front we take a lot of wickets.

You have to credit the whole bowling group working as a team and I think that’s (been) the trademark of the Scorchers in our successful years”
